For most people, getting their bodies to a hairless state means having to go through a lot of waxing hair-removal hell—that painful tearing of the hair from your body strip by strip, not to mention the rashes, bumps and ingrown hairs that may result from a bad waxing job.
Now, there’s a new painless laser hair removal treatment to put an end to all your waxing woes. Unlike other lasers, Soprano XL Laser feels less like a torture device and more like a relaxing, hot-stone massage.
Though most laser hair-removal machines work on a similar premise of destroying the hair follicles with heat—compared to the old diode lasers that only worked with certain skin tones and skin types—the machine’s In-Motion painless technology uses less heat but with faster delivery. Its DualChill tip also makes sure your skin stays cool and comfortable. The machine’s sliding motion also eliminates any skipped or missed spots common to other types of laser hair removal.
According to Dr. Jean Marquez of The Skin Specialist clinic, speed and comfort are the huge advantages of the Soprano XL. Depending on the size of the area, each treatment will take about 30 minutes to an hour without any downtime like redness and irritation.
Before your treatment session, you’ll need to have the target area for treatment shaved. After applying a thick cold gel and giving you a pair of safety glasses to wear, the therapist handling the laser will pass it over the desired area numerous times.
In between appointments you can shave or trim hair, but it’s important to avoid waxing and epilating throughout the treatment course in order to avoid disruption of the hair growth cycle. Tanning and prolonged UV exposure are also no-nos.
After the first treatment, expect the hair in the treated area to continue to grow as usual for the first two weeks. But after that, the hair will start to fall out.
As for the price, at P5,000 to P10,000 per area per session, the treatment is a little more expensive compared to the older laser machines, but those who’ve tried it said that fewer sessions are required compared to the old lasers.
The Soprano XL Laser is available at The Skin Specialist Clinic, G/F, Esna Bldg., Timog Ave., Quezon City. Call tel. 3748087.
