From November 19 to 29, six Filipino students will be joining delegations from Singapore and Laos for the National Institution for Youth Education’s (NIYE) invitation for junior high school students in Asean member countries for Youth Exchange Project.

The members will be staying at the National Myoko Youth Outdoor Learning Center and the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center, in Niigata and Tokyo Prefectures, respectively. They will be accompanied by Dr. Priscilla Legaspi Minas, a professor at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (University of the City of Manila), and former scholar of the government of Japan.

The NIYE Junior Program offers students from Asean countries who are interested in Japan the opportunity to increase their awareness of Japan through different outdoor activities, cultural programs and meetings with their Japanese peers, while enjoying their surroundings and natural environment.

The program also intends to develop a global perspective and the leadership potential of Japanese youth. NIYE conceptualizes and executes programs intended to promote friendship and holistic growth, through instructive and stimulating outdoor experiences for youths.

The project is designed to instill conscientiousness and cooperation among the youth as they will be working and living closely as a group, where they will learn to observe the prescribed times for waking, sleeping and bathing. They will also practice orderliness, as they themselves will have to see to it that their rooms are well-kept.

The NIYE Junior Program is conducted in the Philippines by the Philippine Federation of Japan Alumni, in coordination with the Embassy of Japan, through the Japan Information and Culture Center.
