MANILA, Philippines—The country’s bachelor President was not about to stay home on Valentine’s Day to play doting uncle to nephews Joshua and Bimby.

President Benigno Aquino III told reporters before lunch on Friday that he was hoping his youngest sister Kris, who celebrated her 43rd birthday on Friday, would not leave her two sons with him on that day.

But he did not say whether or not he had a special Valentine’s date.

He said he planned to spend the hearts’ day with some friends.

“At least, perhaps, Kris will not deposit her children with me this day (Friday),” said Mr. Aquino.

“Later today, I will meet up with some friends for a small reception. That’s it,” he said, without naming names.

“I thank Senator (Sonny) Angara for reminding me of my youngest sister’s birthday [on Friday]. So if not for him, I might have forgotten to greet my sister,” the President said in an ambush interview in Pasay City.

Mr. Aquino keynoted the opening of the 21st Travel Tour Expo 2014 organized by the Philippine Travel Agencies Association.

The President just turned 54 last Feb. 8.

In several public pronouncements, he said he would get married only in 2016 when he steps down from the presidency.

There was no word from Malacañang if the President was sparing time to meet with his reported new flame, Mariness “Kim” Ledesma.

The 29-year-old lawyer is currently working at the Department of the Interior and Local Government headed by Secretary Mar Roxas.
