What keeps us so excited for summer each year? The beach! The sun! The sand! Just a few of the usual answers you’ll get from any summer junkie. But people are anything but usual nowadays — we’re now in a world where summer gets us excited for other real world reasons: the air flight bookings, the windy boat rides, the beach activities. Each of us chases that unique escapade from the city, to a place where we can take pictures of ourselves obviously living a good life for all our Instagram followers to see.

If you haven’t decided yet on where to go or what to do this summer… well, you’re in trouble. Hordes and hordes of people like you are already booking their ways off into an island somewhere south, or to the chilly mountains up north. And yes, they’ve already booked travels on the most important dates this summer: the Holy Week, the Labor Day weekend, and early June before the classes start. Some of them are even on vacation now waddling away in some romantic beach resort, celebrating Valentine’s.

The good news is, there is a way for you to still enjoy summer albeit missing that early Piso fare rush! And it doesn’t take you more than 3.5 hours to do that.
This summer, a huge string of events is about to happen in the beautiful island paradise of Mindoro. In a very bold move to promote local tourism, the municipality of Puerto Galera created “Summerscape,” a huge summer shebang that will leave you reeling in love with all things beachy. From sport events to rave parties, to art exhibits and delicious food, the shores of Puerto Galera has readied itself to be the background of your future “summer vacay!” photos in IG. Join me putting that hashtag “goodlife” in your summer this year…

I’m sure you’ve seen a friend post a photo playing with fire with apoy dancer… or an aerial shot of a group selfie in the middle of a beach rave party. Well, it’s high time you have those photos yourself, because Puerto Galera offers just all that. And more than that, there are more exciting things brewing up in this island paradise that feed the artful soul in you.

Up the mountains of Puerto Galera, there is a secret hideout that will house one of the most anticipated music festivals in the Philippines. The world acclaimed Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival, set to launch on the 27th of February, will re-define your idea of music, party, festivals, and summer vacay. The Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival is a six-day long music and arts showcase, the first of its kind in the whole of the Asia Pacific. This festival will happen right at the foothills of Puerto Galera’s Mount Malasimbo, in a huge grass-terraced amphitheatre a few minutes away from White Beach. The festival debuted in 2011, and its quirky yet enchanting way of delivering music and the arts to the people made it one of the most anticipated festivals in the region. The crowd is a rowdy mix of foreigners and locals; even celebrities hike up this enigmatic mountain to get that Malasimbo experience. Patrons have more than doubled since it started, and it screams a “must-see” considering its relative infancy. A good three-day pass will give you a party experience like no other. Taking a selfie with one of the art installations is allowed, and will surely be the envy of the followers of your social media pages. Think exotic, artsy, reggae, and kesong puti. Oh yes.

Share with us the wonders of our own Filipino heritage. Rally your friends plot your leaves. We’re announcing more exciting events in Puerto Galera, so stay tuned. Together, let’s make #ChoosePuertoGalera the next trending hot topic this summer.
