Before argan oil became a buzz-worthy ingredient, an American hair-care company turned to macadamia nut oil for its miraculous benefits.
Macadamia Natural Oil is a California enterprise and a high-end brand of specialized products for various hair textures. Moreover, the formulations are designed to cut shampoo and blow-dry time by 50 percent.
Macadamia Natural Oil’s strength is the patented composition of macadamia nut and argan seed oils which are rich in important fatty acids. Macadamia nut oil contains Omega 7 that provides key building blocks for the hair and skin. Argan oil contains Omega 9, which enhances the hair and the scalp’s ability to retain moisture. The combination of these oils molds the substance that closes the scales of the hair cuticle.
When the scales are sealed together, hair becomes smoother and stronger to protect itself from the environment. Strong hair also bounces off the light that lends shine to the hair.
“Macadamia closely matches the skin’s natural oils and is absorbed into the hair and into the scalp. Other formulations sit on top of the hair like our competitors’ products do,” said Scott Smith, vice president for business development in Asia and Australia.
He visited the Philippines recently to promote the brand at the new Piandré Salon, Two Parkade Building in Bonifacio Global City. Distributed by Zulusibs, the brand is available in over 60 salons.
Macadamia Hair Oil was established in 2009 and is targeting double-digit growth.
Global hair oil authority
“We want to become the global oil authority for all hair textures,” said Smith. “We will be expanding our brand with wash and care and treatment for major hair textures starting with
ultra-fine hair and fine hair, medium, coarse and ultra-coarse.
“We aim to be the go-to brand for every hair texture that has its own unique moisture and repair needs—like fine hair that doesn’t need a lot of moisture because it puts a lot of weight, and all the way to the opposite with very coarse and damaged hair that needs conditioning benefits,” said Smith.
One of its most popular products is the Healing Oil, which addresses dry, damaged hair without weighing it down.
Andrea Zulueta, Piandré’s creative director, pointed out that Filipinos have been snapping up this product to smoothen their coarse hair. Even medium and fine textures can benefit from this therapeutic oil.
Flawless, the new star product, is more than just a cleansing and treatment solution as it also detangles, removes frizz and adds volume to one’s hair.
“It comes in a unique delivery system as a foam,” said Smith. “You wet the hair, apply a small amount of foam and massage the scalp. The natural oil is replenished and adds more shine to the hair. Some treatments can be harsh. This is a color-safe formula. Using this will help prolong your hair color.”
The shampoos are free of surfactant, a detergent that makes a formula easier to wet and spread. “There are no suds. It’s not like the shampoo where you put in a lot of bubbles,” said Smith. “Flawless is great for men because it’s two-in-one. They can take it to the gym and there’s no need to shampoo and condition.”
Both Flawless and Healing Oil treatments significantly reduce blow-drying time and exposure to heat-related hair damage.
“The conditioning benefits of the macadamia and argan oils penetrate the hair to push out the excess moisture under the cuticle. This enables hair to dry faster,” said Smith.
Product ranges address other concerns such as rejuvenating shampoos, deep masques, activating curls, taming curls, leave-on conditioning and medium-hold hair spray. Smith pointed out that the brand’s teardrop packaging with floral and foliage designs makes it attractive.
Although Macadamia Natural Oil hair products use many natural ingredients, these also have other inorganic constituents to enhance performance and keep a certain shelf life.
