“Horse Power’,” the group art show, will thunder into LRI Design Plaza, 210 Nicanor Garcia Street (formerly Reposo), Bel Air II, Makati City on Sept. 11. Several top artists will engage the viewer into a discovery of the strength and power of the horse.

 

Salvador “Buds” Convocar and Salvador “Buddy” Ching lead the luminaries: Buds with more than a 20-year tenure as art teacher and mentor, who is  best known for myriad awards for artworks that marry ethnic designs with technology; and Buddy, treasured son of Bulacan province, who has made a formidable name as visual, installation and performance artist.

 

Omi Reyes is another admired and recognized veteran who uniquely fingerpainted flowerscapes then gravitated towards his “Steampunk” series, evoking the mood of 19th century British Victorian era.

 

Aner Sebastian labels himself a “colorist,” and his works burst with colors and textures.

 

Also present are the women subjects of the multi-awarded paintings of Hermes Alegre; they’re sensuous and seductive, serene and sensitive,  amid lush flora and fauna.

 

Roel Obemio’s works pay tribute to Colombian artist Fernando Botero and “boterismo,” with its expanded exaggeration of figures, faces and objects. A former animator, Roel is now painter and book illustrator.

 

The dreamscape of Francis Nacion, Jr.  is noticeably dominated by rounded one-eyed characters, textural etchings, and brilliant colors.

 

Jaime Gubaton is noticed for his social realism.

 

Guest artists are led by  Jose  Ferdinand “Joy” Rojas II,  CEO of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), who’s an  art collector and watercolorist.

 

Woodworker and artist P. Michael Daza, Monchot Ongsiako, a chef educated in a US culinary school but also a prolific watercolorist, photographer Mandy Navasero, and digital artist Evie Roque  also contribute their works. Navasero is exhibit curator.
