Tarlac monastery to expose True Relic of the Holy Cross on Sept. 20; Fiesta of San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila marked Sept. 28 | Lifestyle.INQ

It is the time of the year again when pilgrims go up the hill of San Jose in Tarlac to attend the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on Sept. 14.

It is also the founding anniversary of the Servants of the Risen Christ Monastic Community, and its female religious counterparts, the Oblates of the Risen Christ, Handmaids of the Risen Christ and Contemplatives-Adorers of the Risen Christ Monastic Community. Founder is Fr. Archie Cortez, SRC.

The exposition of the relic of the Holy Cross will take place on Sept. 20, 10 a.m., in the chapel built for it. The High Mass will be presided by Manila Emeritus Archbishop Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales and Tarlac Bishop Florentino F. Cinense.

Our Lady of Mercy

Our Lady of Mercy is the patroness of Bahay Pare in Candaba, Pampanga, but the youth call her “Nuestra” culled from her Spanish title, “Nuestra Señora de la Merced.”

Fr. Pete Sitchon, parish priest, is leading the celebration of her fiesta on Sept. 24, starting with Novena Masses Sept. 15-23, 6 p.m. Prior to each Mass will be the praying of the Rosary and the Novena at 5:30 p.m.

Fiesta procession will be on Sept. 21, 2 p.m., from Sto Cristo Chapel, Brgy. Pulong Plaza. The procession will proceed to the parish church at 3 p.m.

Fiesta Masse are at 5, 6:15, 7:30, 8:45 and 10 a.m.; and at 3, 4:15 and 6 p.m. The parish priests of the Vicariate of the Most Holy Redeemer will concelebrate with the main celebrant in the 6 p.m. Mass.

Mass baptism will be at 12 noon.

San Lorenzo Ruiz fiesta

San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila, the first Filipino saint, will mark his feast on Sept. 28, which will be a Sunday this year.

Meanwhile St. Maria Goretti Parish at the Pius XII Catholic Center will celebrate San Lorenzo de Manila feast earlier, on Sept. 27. Fr. Joey Bustillo will celebrate Mass at 6 p.m. with the members of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Global Ministry attending.

Msgr. Modesto Teston, parish priest of Our Lady of the Airway, will say Mass at the Chapel in Terminal I of NAIA on Sept. 26, Friday, 12 noon.

Kannawidan is 21

The Kannawidan Foundation, Inc. will hold its 21st founding anniversary, dubbed “Agpadayatayo.”

Highlight will be the dinner-dance on Sept. 27, 6 p.m., at the Clubhouse, North Greenhills, San Juan City.

Guest of honor and speaker Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan.

Kannawidan is composed of members whose roots are from Ilocos Norte. It espouses the promotion of the province’s arts and culture, food and tourism.

The dinner will feature authentic Ilocano cuisine.

Lampara Storytelling finals

Kid storytellers will compete in the 2014 Lampara Storytelling Competition: Kuwentong Bata, Kuwentistang Bata.

Three finalists will be taking the stage for the competition which is a highlight of the Manila International Book Fair at the SM Mall of Asia on Sept. 22.

Out of more than 200 contestants who joined the elimination workshops last Sept. 5, only 10 finalists per category were chosen for the final competition.

Arma Christi Reliquary

For those within or around the Metro Manila area, today is the last day exposition of the Arma Christi Reliquary (which contains the Relics of the Passion and the True Cross of Our Lord) until 7 p.m., at the Mary Immaculate Parish in Don Lauro Avenue, Levitown Estate, Better Living Subdivision, Barangay Don Bosco, Paranaque City.

Kindly bring your crosses, crucifixes and religious articles at home. Come. Pray. Touch. Be Blessed. All the participants will obtain the Apostolic Blessing from Pope Francis transmitted by the Papal Nuncio.

On Thursday, Sept. 18, 9:30 a.m.,       1,062 boys and girls will receive the sacrament of confirmation at  Sisters of Mary Girlstown, Biga II, Silang, Cavite. The Eucharistic Celebration and Sacramental Rites of Confirmation will be officiated by the Bishop of Imus, His Excellency, Most Rev Reynaldo Evangelista, DD.
