Brown Movement for Cultural Advancement Inc. holds its third Essay Writing Contest on Saturday, Nov. 29, at the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

The competition is an on-the-spot writing contest centered on the theme, “Kultura Ko, Yaman Ko.”

All elementary, high school and college students are invited to submit entries, either in English or Filipino, discussing Philippine history, culture and arts.

Learn and earn through ‘kakanin’

The Golden Treasure Skills and Development Program (GTSDP) will conduct a one-day seminar on native kakanin making at the College of Social Work and Community Development Bldg., Magsaysay Ave. cor. Ylanan St., University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, on  Nov. 9, Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

what's upThere will be actual demonstrations, food tasting and hands-on experience on how to make palitaw, puto, espasol,  buchi, bibingka, puto bumbong, maja blanca, biko,  pichi pichi, halayang ube, bibingkang pinipig, cassava cake, sapin sapin, kutsinta, puto pao, minoron,  tupig, binagol, baye baye, kalamay sa ube, nilupak, suman sa lihiya and suman sa ibos.

Also to be discussed are sourcing of materials and costing, and details that a budding entrepreneur must know before going into the native kakanin business.

Power Mac Center  at DLSU

Power Mac Center has established a branch inside the De La Salle University campus in Manila.

The move was an innovative effort that gives the DLSU community a more convenient access to Apple technology and promotes a technology-empowered education system.

Power Mac Center’s collaboration also extends to the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) as its campus will serve as training venue for course offerings for persons with disabilities.

The Power Mac Center and DLS-CSB SPaCE team-up will also offer Apple certification and non-certification programs for students, alumni and employees of DLS-CSB and the public.

These programs include Mac Integration Basics 10.9 (Nov. 21-22); Mac Management Basics 10.9 (Nov. 26-27); Mavericks 101: OS X Support Essentials 10.9 (Jan. 14-16, 2015); Mavericks 201: OS X Server Essentials 10.9 (Jan. 28-30, 2015); Final Cut Pro X (Feb. 5-6, 2015); and iOS App Development (Mar. 2-7, 2015).
