The return of the fireworks display brought back the spirit and tradition of the University of Santo Tomas’ (UST) Paskuhan, the school’s annual Christmas celebration.

This year, the event becomes more special—next month during his historic Philippine visit, Pope Francis will make a stop at the UST campus.

Paskuhan’s 2014 theme is “Celebration of Thomasian Compassion with Pope Francis this Christmas.” UST Rector Fr. Herminio Dagohoy, O.P., said that Thomasians must prepare themselves for the Papal visit.

Last year’s allocated money for the fireworks display was donated to the Super Typhoon “Yolanda” survivors.

To continue supporting a cause, the UST Central Student Council spearheaded a project, TP4 Scholars or Thomasian Project 4 Scholars, where the money collected from booths will be donated to 10 high school scholars.

Electronic Dance Music was also incorporated at Paskuhan 2014; DJs Callum David and Ace Ramos played records for the Thomasian crowd. Local bands Paraluman, Silent Sanctuary and Spongecola also performed.

“Last year parang nakulangan yung mga dumalo, kaya ngayon nag-infuse kami ng bagong concepts and ideas para mas maging masaya ang Paskuhan,” said John Roque de los Santos, executive vice president of the UST Student Organization Coordinating Council.

Paskuhan is also open to students from other schools as well as the public, as long they are accompanied by a Thomasian upon entrance.
