Many balikbayan and other visitors heading back to their countries this January will want to bring back souvenirs to remind them of their memorable experiences.

In keeping with the Filipino tradition of pasalubong, many of them will be taking home locally made keepsakes for friends and family. The pasalubong or homecoming gift is of great cultural importance for Filipinos, as it strengthens the bond with immediate family, relatives and friends.

The gesture of handing out pasalubong emphasizes the gladness at reuniting with loved ones and the relief at being back home safe. It is also a sign of thoughtfulness. By bringing gifts with regional significance, the person coming home can also share part of his travels.
