Trend report: 21st-century mod | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

There is practically a mod revival every seas on. It does make one wonder, if it’s constantly “revived,” did it ever die?

Contemporary mod, however, has had a few updates since Twiggy. What remains is the crisp and flirty silhouette—boxy but with legs and arms covered, and with a tight sleeve. The color palette is less t wee.

The look is anchored by dark and neutral hues, with a tweak of off-colors like cobalt and jade green. Away with too pretty and pristine (like bows on the hair or quirky patterns like checkerboard and spots), and in with something a tad more grunge.

It’s all in the attitude. And perhaps thoughtful beauty planning, too. We recommend messy-hair-don’t-care and luminous skin finished with a light matte lip.

Dresses with an open décolleté or a deep-V neckline accommodate effortless layering. Style with a high-neck, arm-hugging top in a lightweight knit.

Color-blocking in subdued hues can effortlessly go from day to night.

It won’t fit a lot, but a micro purse is essential to the look.

Unless you’re going full-on Ariana Grande, skip the patent leather and go for earth-tone suede.

Costume jewelry in geometric shapes need not always be Bauhaus and plastic.

Tortoiseshell frames are a chic alternative to the expected cat eye.

Color is key. A little goes a long way.
