Caritas Expo launches Caritas Margins as the Social Brand to help end poverty. Caritas Margins provides skills and training to the urban poor communities and marginalized sector while honing them to become social entrepreneurs.

 

This three-day expo will showcase various Caritas Margins products from different marginalized community partners, ranging from food, home and ladies’ accessories, and personal care products, to artwork from resident inmates of penal communities cared by Caritas Restorative Justice Ministry, and other gift items and decor.

Poetry competition and poetry book to be launched

 

 

The Kokoy F. Guevara Poetry Competition, and the author’s poetry collection “The Reddest Herring” (University of Santo Tomas Publishing, 2015) will be launched on  Nov. 28, Saturday, 6 p.m., at the Third Floor Exhibition Hall, Ayala Museum, Greenbelt Park, Makati City. The event is open to the public, and admission is free.

 

Guevara earned his Master of Fine Arts from the Iowa Writers Program in 2010.

 

The poetry competition is established by the family and friends of the late poet and scholar, in partnership with De La Salle University Department of Literature and the Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center (BNSCWC), to commemorate his life and work. It also seeks to assist in the artistic development of Filipino poets and promote interest in poetry in the Philippines.

 

First prize is P25,000; second prize, P15,000; and third, P10,000.

 

The competition is open to Filipino poets of all ages or any nationality residing or studying in Iowa, United States. Entry must be an unpublished work in English, containing five to 10 poems. It must be in PDF format, size 12 Arial or Times New Roman font, and double-spaced. Each contestant can submit only one entry.

 

Entry must be accompanied by a separate sheet, which includes the following information: author’s complete name; 2” x 2” photo; date of birth; full contact information (postal address, e-mail, phone number); and proof of nationality or citizenship (for Filipino citizens, scanned copy of passport, driver’s license or student ID; for residents of Iowa,  scanned copy of driver’s license or student ID.

 

Entry must be emailed to: [email protected]. Entries shall be accepted from Nov. 28 to June 28, 2016. The winners will be announced on Oct. 28, 2016. The decision of the Board of Judges is final.
