Have you ever wondered if you are a smart and effective traveler? Do you think your travel preparations and habits are good enough to result in a fun and hassle-free vacation? Take this quick test to see your level of preparation before embarking on a new journey.

Check and count how many of these items apply to you and see whether you’re a good traveler or not:

  1. You always prepare your flights and itinerary at least a month or two in advance.

  1. You thoroughly check the details of your tickets and accommodation (yes, even the fine print)    three days before your trip.

  1. You make at least a rough list of the places and the dates/time in your travel itinerary.

  1. You diligently hunt for the best deals you can find when looking for a good flight.

  1. You do research on the cultures, food and attractions from online guides or read reviews from travel bloggers.

  1. You print a map of the area you are going to so that you won’t get lost even without GPS or wifi.

  1. You learn a bit of the national language in case you need some help from the locals.

  1. You keep all of your important travel documents in one compact case.

  1. You make sure all of your expenses are segregated into different categories to avoid overspending.

  1. You have a small portion of money tucked away in case of emergencies.

  1. You weigh your bags and are aware what is inside each piece of luggage you have before going to the airport.
  2. You inform family and friends about your travel itinerary in case something happens to you.

  1. All of your important items like your smartphone or camera have some form of identification on them.

  1. You make sure all your liquid items like lotions and soaps are kept in a plastic bag.

  1. Make sure you’re well rested before departing.

===================================

0-5 points

I think it’s time we put the traveling daydreams to the side and get serious. If you keep up this lack of preparation, you might make a big mistake sometime soon and that will be one story you don’t want to share with the folks back at home.

6-11

You’re pretty adept at this whole traveling thing. You fancy yourself a capable traveler, but you can do a whole lot better with a little more effort and a sharpened travel sense. While your trips are successes most of the time, maybe a bit more planning and preparation can give you a much more hassle-free headstart before a trip.

12-15

You are a master in the art of traveling! There’s no obstacle too big or detail too small for somebody like you. Sure you aren’t perfect and there are hang ups in your adventures here and there, but those hiccups are hardly a headache for a person who is as prepared as you are.
