Scrapbooking, the art of putting together bits and pieces of special events in your life into a precious, memory-filled album that people may want to view now and then. To the inexperienced, it may seem like you’re only cobbling pictures and paper together in a small album, but there’s more to it than just that. When people try it out for the first time, they find out that it isn’t all that simple as they thought.

Don’t fret. Scrapbooking can be done the way YOU want without any fancy paper lining or extravagant design.

Print Tiny Travel Photos

Printing pictures is not a regular occurrence anymore with the birth of digital photography; but it is still very much available if you know where to look or whom to ask. Don’t just depend on your facebook album to store these memories. It’s more meaningful and fun to print them out, glue them to the blank pages of a simple kraft paper album and write the dates and events by hand. Touching the photos and cradling the features of your family and friends can be quite relaxing and can help bring back a tiny bit of nostalgia in anybody.

Save Small Tickets

Compact documents like train tickets, museum passes, calling cards and even small leaflets can hold a lot of significance to people. Collage these small paper items to your tastes: Collect candy wrappers if you love sweets and want to remember certain brands you love (flatten them out inside of books or guides to straighten them). If you like music, save some materials from underground or big concert events like the ticket itself or tiny leaflets that they may be handing out during the show. Pressed flowers and nation-exclusive store tags count too.

Stamp Down Memories

Stamps, both the paper and the ink kind are compact, memorable and can easily last decades if treated with care. Postal stamps are often easy to find (just head to the nearest post office) and are unique to each region in each country. Some of them even have special editions specific for collectors. As for ink stamps, they can be a bit harder to look for; but most museums around the world have stamp seals on their tickets and documents. Japan even has an activity called a stamp rally that has you exploring places to collect unique ink stamp marks.

Mini Diary Entries

There are just some things you can’t capture in a photograph sometimes. In cases where a missed opportunity for a memorable picture happens, describe it instead in written words. All of those moments hidden away from the camera lens can be remembered in fun notes and descriptions you can add to each page to give it a little more flavor. Whether it’s an embarrassing mishap or a funny one-liner, it definitely worth remembering and recording.

Mapping the Journey

One of the most creative yet simplest ideas you can do for your travel scrapbook is to purchase a foldable map of the areas you’ve visited and then draw a line with a marker on the paths you’ve taken from day one all to the end. Put in little notes and maybe a few diary entries with photos on the following pages to give your readers a bit of an inside look as to what happened on that journey.

Put two or three or even all of these different elements together in a scrapbook and you’ll have yourself a compact museum that will take you and your loved ones on a detailed journey through your travels across the world we live in.
