‘School of Sansó’ at UP Vargas; Metrobank grand prix winner holds first solo; Herzon, Rhea de la Rosa in joint exhibit

SCHOOL of Sansó, the Juvenal Sansó 2016 Retrospective, is on view Aug 11-Sept 15, at Vargas Museum, University of the Philippines Diliman.

It is the fifth of the seven retrospective exhibitions in 2016 in honor of the life and works of Juvenal Sansó.

“School of Sansó” is the artist’s return to his roots, back to the University of the Philippines where his passion, values and skills to make art were honed through formal instruction and the diligent guidance of Filipino impressionist, post-impressionist and modernist mentors.

Vargas Museum is at University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.

Siblings Herzon and Rhea Dela Rosa showcase their paintings in the exhibit, “Fifth Elements,” on view until Aug. 25 at Art Gallery Philippines.

UP faculty artists show

The University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts (UPCFA) faculty will hold its annual exhibit Aug. 12-Sept 3 at the UP Diliman Fine Arts Gallery.

“Left Wing-Right Wing: An Exhibition of Works by the UPCFA Faculty” is an allusion to the architectural location of the college’s different departments and the wide spectrum and

overlapping of diverse disciplines, fields and affinities within the college itself.

Works range from paintings, to prints, sculptures, photographs, digital art, drawings, video art and ceramics. Show is curated by Benjie Cabangis.

Alvin Florentino, 2013 grand prize winner for painting of the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (Made) awards, is holding his first solo exhibit, “Narrative Threads,” at Galerie Francesca.

Everything has to be balanced,” he says. “Not too much, not too little. My paintings are the same. Right colors, but not too vibrant. Maybe that’s why I prefer earth tones, reds, golds, grays.”

Tagle art classes

Positivism Art Gallery is offering a one-year art course for children and adults. It is a once-a-week program held every Saturday, 9:30-11 a.m. It will be conducted by artist E.R. Tagle at his Positivism Art Gallery. Participants will be introduced to the use of charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, soft and oil pastel. Themes revolve around family unity, love and environment. There will be assignments every session. Fee is P50, 000 inclusive of materials. Enrollment in ongoing.
