The Arnold Janssen Kalinga Center, a ministry for the poor of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) at the order’s well-known Catholic Trade Center in Tayuman, Manila, celebrated its first anniversary on Aug. 18.

The center, the brainchild of Fr. Flavie L. Villanueva, mission secretary and coordinator for justice and peace issues of the Philippine Central Province of the SVD, and named after the canonized German founder of the SVD, is a feeding and hygiene (toilet and bath) center for the poor.

It was established in connection with the declaration by Pope Francis of 2015 as the Year of the Poor.

Also launched and blessed during the first anniversary was the Kalinga ALS Learning Center, the 110th of its kind under the Arnold Janssen Catholic Mission Foundation (AJCMF). A photo exhibit now ongoing surveys the work of AJCMF and the progress so far of the Kalinga center.

Those who would like to help financially the very timely and worthwhile pro-poor program may contact Fr. Flavie at 0908-8838268.
