Christmas in the Philippines almost always gives emphasis on children. It is a time where their eyes glow with excitement as they receive aguinaldo from their ninongs and ninangs.

Last December 17, Lancaster New City held its second gift giving activity with guests from the Children’s Joy Foundation, a foundation in Cavite that takes care of 25 children. The aim of this year’s gift giving was to be able to extend the Christmas spirit to others.

Helping the organizers were the St. Edward Schools (SES) students who became ates and kuyas to the kids of Children’s Joy to assist them and to make sure they had fun during the party. SES moderators were also there to support their students.

Starting off the program were amazing performances from the dance troupe and the acoustic group of SES. The dance troupe performed Pinoy folk dances to the tune of favorite Christmas songs while the acoustic group sang their way to the hearts of the crowd.

Dr. John Cabalo, St. Edward Schools Principal, was also there to show his support to the students. He said that these kinds of activities are always welcomed by the school as they are the perfect venue for the students to develop values that will make them compassionate and reliable leaders in the future.

Another set of song and dance presentation came from the Children’s Joy kids. A band played percussion and string instruments while singing favorite Christmas songs. Everyone applauded as they finished their performance but what followed was even more surprising… the littlest of the bunch had a power dance performance.

When it was time for the gift giving, the Children’s Joy kids excitedly reached for their gifts, which were personally wrapped by the SES students as well. The kids eagerly tore off the wrappers to see what new toy they got. The day ended with everyone being treated to a Christmas lightshow.
