Rich silhouettes, dark romance | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Boutique department store Adora carries the latest Givenchy offerings, inspired by the decadent ’70s and ’50s pinups.

As the French brand’s designer Ricardo Tisci is known for reworking past silhouettes, layering, and creating trompe l’oeil finishes, his current collections are no exceptions. He serves up transitional pieces with a mix of silhouettes, textural effects and unique prints.

Somber black is replaced by rich autumnal hues of dark brown and olive green with hints of camel, beige, and dainty hues of lilac and purple to create a whimsical yet dusky collection.

Mini-and-long-sheer-skirt combos come in various permutations of armadillo prints, lace and chiffon. Fall dressing could easily be revamped for summer weather with sophisticated pairings such as a leather and chiffon floor-grazing skirt topped off with a ruffled silk georgette blouse, and a mullet turtleneck blouse over a chiffon skirt.

Long proportions and romantic details make the ’70s comeback a head-to-toe affair, while a play on silhouettes and materials such as leather, georgette, and charmeuse bridge the gap between ladylike and masculine.

If drama is your cup of tea, Fall 2011 doesn’t disappoint as the collection continues Tisci’s knack for dark romance. Tailored silhouettes are surprisingly softened by sportswear elements, and the season’s perennial hue, black, is punctuated by colors that dazzle like prized gems.

The collection features a black panther motif with welcome interruptions of elegantly realized pansy prints, materials such as luxurious velvet, satin and lustrous patent leather, and the designer’s signature bomber jackets.

As every nifty outfit needs an eye-catching bag, Givenchy’s must-have “Pandora” and “Nightingale” bags should do the trick, while a chic and functional hobo bag could effortlessly cap off one’s ensemble.

Adora is at 3/F, Greenbelt 5, Ayala Center, Makati.
