Boffi unveils contemporary cove kitchen design by Zaha Hadid | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

Celebrated British architect Zaha Hadid’s death last year may have left a void but her distinctive style endures in the iconic projects she designed like the London Aquatics Center, Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Maxxi Museum in Rome, and Dongdaemun Design Plaza in South Korea.

She also lent her creative genius to numerous collaborations under Zaha Hadid Design, including the one she did with Italian luxury kitchen and bathroom maker Boffi.

That collaboration resulted in the Cove Kitchen, a free-standing kitchen unit that can be customized to precise specifications.

A kitchen reimagined

The collaboration between Boffi and Hadid commenced three years ago and took two years—from concept to production—to finish. The kitchen was originally conceived for the apartments of Hadid’s upscale condo project in New York.

It is called as such because it shows a cove in the front part made of wood while the rest of the kitchen is made of Corian.

“Zaha was designing the building with her special style and wanted to have a kitchen able to ‘follow’ the sinuosity of the walls,” said Roberto Gavazzi, CEO of Boffi in a recent interview.

The Cove for Boffi by Zaha Hadid Design debuted in Italy last April during Milan Design Week and was launched at Boffi’s Soho showroom in May. It went on to win in the kitchen category of the NYC x Design Awards held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City that same month.

Sleek lines

Echoing the minimal and sleek style of Boffi, the Cove Kitchen evokes the unmistakable lines of Hadid’s curvaceous architecture.

A space for stools is carved into the front along with seamless drawers. Its nonstandard design includes cabinets outfitted with storage containers, and areas for cooking, washing and a special snack area.

The free-standing unit is available in three standard sizes offered in a premier mix of finishes and materials such as Corian, stone and wood. Boffi takes great pride in its exceptional lacquering process that makes its products extremely durable and resistant to scratches.

Doors, rear panels and countertops are made from Corian, wood, Ecolak lacquer, polyester, brushed stainless steel and Lasermat. The finish is always a choice of the highest quality wood, gloss, marble or stone.

Clients can also request for a one-of-a-kind Cove Kitchen based on their specifications and unique needs through Boffi Code, which offers clients complete freedom of personalization.

“Style, innovation, personalization, service are the key factors for success in the highest end of the market. This is why our cooperation with Focus Global Inc. is extremely valuable,” Gavazzi said.

In the Philippines, Boffi’s kitchen units as well as bathroom and wardrobe systems are exclusively distributed by Focus Global, Inc.
