At Shangri-La Plaza’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony last week, guests were treated to a flash dance mob. The group then gathered onstage where they sang Christmas songs.

To celebrate the Yuletide season, the mall chose to decorate with Santa Claus’ reindeer. Mall visitors can spot them in almost every corner of Shangri-La Plaza.

The grand Christmas tree is decorated with life-size, photo-realistic reindeer. They are seen flying from the huge tree, all the way to the ceiling of the mall.

After the lighting ceremony, families and friends flocked to the Christmas tree for pictures and selfies.

Fond memories

Mall regulars have fond memories of Christmastime at Shangri-La Plaza—taking the kids to ToyTown and Ripley’s Believe It or Not, and shopping at Rustan’s.

The mall has drawn two generations of Filipino families, said Shangri-La Plaza EVP and general manager Lala Fojas: “A lot of people grew up going here and their children, in turn, are now here, having fun. This longevity is because we continue to grow and evolve our brand.”

Fojas added: “You need to keep up with the times to flourish in today’s environment. You need to constantly resonate with your customers, to adapt with the current feel and mood of the times.”

For the holidays, guests can support the mall’s beneficiary, Unang Hakbang Foundation, by buying a stuffed reindeer toy for P300.

The “Adopt a Reindeer” promo, which lasts the entire Christmas season, will help a number of underprivileged communities.

Santa Claus will visit the Shangri-La Plaza East Wing, Level 4, 3:30-7:30 p.m., on
Dec. 9-10 and Dec. 22-23; and 3:30-6:30 p.m. on Dec. 14-15 and Dec. 18-21. —CONTRIBUTED
