9 different ways to say I Love You | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

When this month rolls in every year, we know–and we’re constantly reminded– it’s the love month. You can tell just from the red cut-out hearts lining every establishment you walk into come February that there’s certainly some unspoken pressure to be extra expressive toward our significant others, especially on Valentine’s day.

But, c’mon, it’s 2018–time to get more than just roses and greeting cards of yesteryear and add these cool new ideas to show your loved ones how you feel. In an age where it’s never been easier to connect, it’s also never been easier, or more fun, to say “I love you” without actually having to say the words.

And whether you want to go the extra mile and treat the 14th of February like it’s a lover’s Christmas, or if you simply decide to show your affection a little differently this year, here are a few ideas for some creative, non-traditional gifts:

1. Master a new dish.

Make your V-day dinner more special by cooking a la your favorite celebrity chef. Be inspired by the likes of Jamie Oliver or Bobby Flay and try to wow your loved one by taking on a new, slightly-more-challenging-than-your-average-go-to recipe. Read up online or watch a couple cooking show episodes, then let yourself go wild in the kitchen. A way to a lover’s heart is through their stomach, after all.

2. Orchestrate small acts of kindness.

Brighten up your loved one’s day by coming up with tiny, surprise acts of kindness. Make them coffee. Tuck a love note inside their bag. Have their favorite restaurant deliver lunch. Send them a random, encouraging .gif. Tag them in a meme they love. With just a little effort, the possibilities are endless.

3. Help your loved one out.

Although this is something that shouldn’t be restricted to Valentine’s day, you can still put in some extra effort for it. Do your loved one a favor they actually need. Get their car washed, fix a broken sink, take their pet to the vet. Give them something underrated for V-day: rest.

4. Say it with music.

This old-time favorite can definitely be updated. Send your partner a video of you playing their favorite song. Get creative with the accompaniment. You can use karaoke apps for a different kind of greeting. You can also make your loved one a special playlist. Build a list of all their favorites, or all the songs that remind them of you, or a playlist with all the song titles that say what you want to say.

5. DIY together.

With tons of life hacks online, it has become another fun way to spend time with your loved ones. Learning something new together not only increases your bonding time but you can also make items to gift to each other! Talk about a new way of commemorating love day! Everything from matching upcycled shirt templates to Valentine’s-themed recipes you only need a few tools to make your masterpiece. So go and get crafty.

6. Book a trip.

An extra special gift your partner would definitely enjoy is a surprise trip. Be creative by planning ahead–get your hands on their schedule, make the necessary arrangements, assume the hassles usually meant for two people. Booking sites and online ticket reservations make this an easier feat. But a special getaway with your loved one is all worth it.

7. Schedule a movie date.

Bonding over a good movie never goes out of style. So why don’t you turn your living room into the comfiest space with some popcorn and dimmed lights – completing the ambience to watch the latest titles on Netflix and HOOQ.

The first season of the new Netflix series Altered Carbon is now online as well as the latest episodes of Riverdale and Black Mirror. HOOQ on the other hand has recently updated the latest Filipino originals with Kita Kita, Luck at First Sight and Die Beautiful to name a few.
