DEFINE FASHION FOR teens, and you’ll most likely come up with the words attitude and self expression.
SM took on these concepts and tweaked them for its Boys and Girls Teens Wear Collection, shown on day one of Philippine Fashion Week.
The show started off with pieces that took inspiration from the glamorous lifestyle of rock stars. The first set was fashionable, edgy, taking its style cues from the likes of Patti Smith, Roxette and the Olsen twins. Black ruled the runway with shades of white and gray, embellished with loads of sequins and hardware. The set offered a wide range of tight jeans, vests and biker jackets for the boys to oversized tops, liquid leggings, bomber jackets and sleek dresses for the girls.
The second set reinvented the nerd stereotype—“an ode to Kate Moss who has become a fashion icon for her creative use of eclectic prints mixed with staples like cardigans, blazers and cropped pants,” said the design team.
Dominant hues were grey and white flecked with bright colors like yellow and blue. Unexpected combinations included formal and smart tops on rugged denims, while the standout ensembles included a plaid dress paired with a black cardigan and accessorized with leggings and a bonnet. The look was both refined and rugged, fashion-forward yet classic.
“The third set was all about ‘urban campout’—a mixture of outdoor, street and urban wear that takes a cue from extreme adventure and camping out,” said Mike de Guzman, SM stylist. Highlighted pieces were mini dresses paired with shorts and A-line dresses matched with sleeveless jackets. Men’s clothing had pieces like fitted denims, graffiti shirts, vests and scarves.
All three looks were topped off with exquisite headpieces.
