‘(500) Days of Summer’ soundtrack
“(500) DAYS OF SUMMER” the movie would not have achieved its mood without the carefully selected 15 tracks composing its soundtrack. It’s no surprise that the film is driven by music, having been directed by music video and short film director Marc Webb. Carrying music that spans from an American duo from the late ’70s (Hall & Oates), to an English rock band in the ’80s (The Smiths), and more recent musical acts from Australia (Wolfmother, The Temper Trap), England (Doves, Mumm-ra), and of course the US (Black Lips), makes for a soundtrack rich in antimainstream music that is often moody about the topic of love.

The mix of acts, like indie-crowd favorites Regina Spektor and Feist, with legendary Simon and Garfunkel, and French model-singer Carla Bruni, emphasizes the music’s responsibility to set the movie’s offbeat tone amid Hollywood’s romantic films starring Adonis and his female counterpart.

Zooey Deschanel fans might enjoy and revel in She & Him’s rendition of “Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want” and Deschanel singing “Sugar Town” (only available through iTunes).

(500) Days of Summer’s soundtrack’s beauty is that it does not just accompany the film, but is intertwined in and defines the story. Additional tracks available with an iTunes purchase are Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s “Here Comes Your Man” and “At Last” by Kevin Michael.
