Darts used as coat hooks, cold packs designed as blood IVs?at Quirks, things aren?t always what they seem
JUST WHEN I THOUGHT I HAVE SEEN EVERYTHING in a mall, I was entertained by a tiny store, smooshed between the noisy arcade and a music store, with unexpected, playful items.
Entering Quirks is like entering Alice in Wonderland, where things aren?t always what they seem to be. In this case, the mundane and ordinary stuff you?ll find at home have turned into something different, and funny.
Darts used as coat hooks, an Autumn leaf turned into a doorstep, cold packs designed as blood IVs, Rayban-looking shades as snack protector, a bottle opener that looks like an emoticon?the list of quirky items is endless.
Cassette tapes are back here, now as easy-to-use tape dispenser (P895). For neat freaks, the Desk Plant (P795) keeps your desk clean and tidy. ?It?s a desk accessory holder. Tape dispenser, keyboard brush and letter knife all fit neatly into this stylized plant,? says owner Michelle Chan.
For time-obsessed individuals, there?s the Stick-It-Easy Clock (P595), made of an innovative material which sticks on most shiny surfaces?windows, mirrors, glass, even refrigerators.
Michelle and her three sisters love to travel abroad and realized there is a market in the Philippines for novelty finds, since Pinoys are known for their humor.
Quirks is such a small space, but Michelle says, ?It is big enough to house all our small quirks and small enough to filter out all the bad ones.?
The items are sourced from five countries?UK, USA, Japan, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
