Seventy-five years ago, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry gifted the world with a novella that has become very well-loved. “The Little Prince” is often pegged as a children’s book, but the story is universal. It can be read at any stage in a person’s life, and that person can still walk away inspired.

The book has been translated into more than 250 languages and dialects. It has been adapted into different media, including TV shows, films and ballet. Now, Montblanc has made it possible for a piece of the story to be held in one’s hands with the Montblanc Meisterstück Le Petit Prince Special Edition.

“No matter which edition you read, which language you choose, the novella still holds the same powerful message,” said Matthieu Dupont, president of Montblanc Southeast Asia, during the launch of the collection. “It is summarized by the fox: ‘But if you tame me, it will be as if the sun came to shine on my life.’ This quote clearly indicates that true wealth is about friendships, family and the loved ones we have for each of us.”

“Two icons were brought together,” he added. “One icon in writing culture, and another in the overall world of literature.”

The new pen is the first of the three Le Petit Prince Special Editions Montblanc that will be coming out in three years.

Every detail is deliberate. The Fox and the Little Prince are the main features of this year’s collection, which highlights the fox’s message of giving importance to relationships. In fact, a sentence from the original novel is laser engraved on the cap of each pen. It reads, “Créer des liens?… Tu seras pour moi unique au monde.” It translates to, “To establish ties?… To me, you will be unique in all the world.”

Color of the night

This is also the first time that the iconic Meisterstück will be made available in blue resin in the color of the night, said Dupont—the sky that surrounds the young prince.

The pen comes in three designs. The Classique is an all-blue piece with the silhouette of a fox’s face engraved on its cap. The Doué Classique edition’s barrel comes in blue, while the platinum-coated cap is engraved with the same fox pattern. The Solitaire edition also comes in all-blue, but is covered with fox engravings.

All designs come in rollerball, ballpoint and fountain pen styles.

The Solitaire has the midsize ballpoint pen and the Legrand rollerball and fountain pen.

The nib of the fountain pen is a sight to behold. For the Solitaire and the Doué editions, the young prince and the fox are engraved on 18K rhodium-plated nibs.

For the Classique edition, the nib is 14K rhodium-plated. The numbers 4810, signifying the height of Mont Blanc the mountain in meters, is found below the characters, just like in all Meisterstück pens.

Yellow star

All the clips of the pens are adorned with a yellow star engraving. It is not to be confused with the star of Montblanc, found on the cap, that represents the snow on top of the famed mountain. In the book, the young prince tells the pilot that he will be living and laughing in one of the stars. The yellow star on the pen serves as a reminder of the endearing character.

Accompanying the writing instrument is an orange ink cartridge reminiscent of the fox’s fur. The collection also includes Le Petit Prince cufflinks and a lined fine stationery notebook.

Montblanc Meisterstück Le Petit Prince Special Edition is exclusively available at Rustan’s, whose president, Donnie Tantoco, speaks of this partnership:

“The only way you can experience that quality is through us. One of the qualities that we admire and support in Montblanc is that they have this mission, even in this whole digital world, to preserve and elevate the art and tradition of writing. They do this by making the best instruments for writing, and there is no better instrument for writing that you can own and have than a Montblanc.”
