A crowd had gathered even before dusk fell at SM Mall of Asia by the Bay last Saturday. Families with school-aged kids, couples and groups of friends basked in the afternoon light of Manila Bay’s famed sunset.

This would be replaced to dazzling effect a little over an hour later by the weekend fireworks display that lit up the night sky, followed by the lighting of the 75-foot Christmas tree located near the carousel.

The tree this year is decorated with angel figures outlined in blue, oversized snowflakes, red and blue Christmas balls, and topped with a multipointed star. Snowmen in matching red or blue caps and scarves encircle the base. Bringing the number of lights used this year to over 40,000 are the white string lights filling in the gaps.

Credit for this marvelous display goes to the Firefly brand of lighting fixtures. The Filipino-owned brand has been in business for over a decade, but only began selling Christmas lights two years ago. Its main source of income now is its line of LED bulbs and lighting fixtures.

Aside from the tree at Mall of Asia, Firefly also lights up trees at SM City North Edsa and Ayala Cebu, the Christmas installations at Tiendesitas (Ortigas East), Bradco Avenue, Aseana City and Ayala Circuit Makati.

The company’s Firefly Bright Christmas lights are the only branded Christmas lights in the market today. They are safer than other lights being made, with high-grade materials such as copper instead of aluminum. All their products are approved by the Department of Trade and Industry.

Firefly’s Christmas lights come in warm white, white and RGB (red, green and blue). Prices range from P439 for the string lights to P2,499 for the curtain lights with 400 LED bulbs and “night sky” effect, where every fifth bulb blinks.

Long-lasting lights

Aside from Christmas lights, Firefly is known for its LED bulbs, which have been proven to last up to two times longer than other LED bulbs. The LED bulbs are energy efficient, ensuring greater savings. Compared to traditional CFL bulbs, Firefly LED bulbs shine brighter by as much as 50 percent.

Firefly LED bulbs are tested and certified by TÜV SÜD, a world-renowned testing and certification institute. Firefly LED is the first local lighting brand in the Philippines to have this certification mark, assuring consumers of its excellent quality and safety.

Firefly’s LED bulbs are also tested as energy efficient under the Meralco Orange Tag Program. Under this program, the actual electrical consumption of a 9-watt bulb is pegged at P0.09 cents/KWH based on the actual Meralco Power Lab Test.

Firefly LED Bright Christmas Lights and LED bulbs are available in leading hardware and do-it-yourself stores, supermarkets and bookstores nationwide.
