Fish bone, shark tooth—jewelry inspired by fossils and remnants | Lifestyle.INQ

.925 silver dipped in gold shark tooth necklace

Though I’m one to hoard accessories on every shopping trip, I usually find myself running for the door before I get to slip on a couple of bangles and fasten a pair of earrings for a night out.

Rather than dealing with the predicament of choosing between my penchant for statement accessories and my desire to pile them on—I wouldn’t want to look like a Christmas tree with gargantuan add-ons—I usually get going without any accessories.

Narra jewelry by Ria Prieto and Bea Ledesma solves every accessory junkie’s dilemma with interesting jewelry that can be stacked and layered to your heart’s content. Add to that, each piece looks even more precious as it ages.

BONE cuff. Narra will be available at AC+632, 2/F, Greenbelt 5.

“It may be worn alone like a signature piece or layered with other accessories to add more character to your look,” suggests Prieto.

Of the collection’s unusual inspiration, Ledesma says, “We were intrigued by thoughts of things left behind after a long time, such as fossils and remnants and how they’ve aged.”

Working directly with research material on fossilized bones under water, their first collection includes a fossilized shark jaw, a fish stripped of flesh, a lone shark tooth, and a human bone curved like a scimitar to encircle the wrist—all fashioned from .925 sterling silver dipped in gold.

“We chose gold vermeil because, by using precious metals, we know our pieces will last forever and actually age to a soft patina, which we find beautiful,” says Prieto.

“They’re designed to fade in time. So depending on how you use them, the pieces get this cool faded effect that’s unique to the piece you own,” adds Ledesma.

As part of the collection’s charm is its antiquarian yet edgy appeal, you need not worry about when and where you can show them off.

“The idea is to make jewelry that is to be worn every day and doesn’t even have to be removed,” notes Prieto.

Ledesma adds, “Narra is about jewelry you can grow old with.”

With their next collection currently in the works, the design duo keeps mum about their inspiration, but sticks to their trademark: a mix of “tough and delicate elements we like to see in our work.”

Narra will be presenting and selling  its first collection (at trunk-show prices) at Cake Club at the new Bonifacio High Street next to Aria, across Seventh HIgh.Saturday, April 21, 3-6 p.m. Like on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Narrajewelry
