SIMOUN Bayudan and Mom
SIMOUN Bayudan and Mom

Moms. They are beautiful people who dedicate their entire lives to nurturing and expressing their heartfelt love for their children. Imagine the lengths they go through to protect the life in their wombs, nurturing and raising a miracle of a lifetime.  They’re truly awe-inspiring.

Where would we all be without our mothers to nourish our minds and bodies to their fullest potential, helping us grow into productive citizens of this world?  Our mothers all have a very special place in our hearts.  They bring us wonderful memories to keep—and to share.

I’ve asked several tweens to share their dearest memories, on what they remember most and best about mom.

“My mom’s one in a million.  She’s such a unique person, with a bubbly personality that you can’t miss. I honestly treat my mom like one of the gang  (but with respect, of course!),  and she doesn’t mind at all.  She can be my best friend, and I can tell her anything I want.  This kind of relationship is what I believe to be key and prime for a happy family. Happy Mother’s Day, mom!”   —Simoun Bayudan, 15, La Salle Greenhills

“My mom  will never hinder me from pursuing my dreams.  Whatever path I choose to take, she’ll always be there for me.  Whatever I choose to do, she’ll be there to support me.  And even if things don’t go well, she’ll still be there, giving me a shoulder to lean on.  That’s what I love most about my mom.” —Frances Aleeza Oblea, 14, St. Scholastica’s College-Westgrove

“I would never forget how my mother would always take me out when I have nothing to do. She would take me with her to the gym, the market or even the hardware store. I guess it’s some sort of bonding with her.  I learn so much from her and I guess she learns a lot from me, too.”  —Miguel Paje, 15, La Salle Greenhills

Jaime Abella and Mom

“My mother is really caring and funny.  Whenever I feel stressed or drained from schoolwork, she never fails to make me smile by cracking jokes. She’s there to listen whenever I feel like ranting about what’s bothering me.  She’s a ‘three-in-one’—a mother, a sister and a friend.” —Marianne Ang, 16, Immaculate Conception Academy

“I’m very close to my mom. She was the one who really took good care of me and supported my interests.  She was always the first person I would go to when I wanted to share my thoughts and feelings.  I remember the countless nights we stayed up talking to each other about anything and everything.  My mom is a great listener and counselor.  Her words of wisdom constantly guide me in life. Without her, I wouldn’t be where I am today.  She is truly a gift from God, and no words can express how grateful I am for a mom like her.” —Andrea Ong, 15, Immaculate Conception Academy

“I guess her laugh, her weirdness in an I’m-trying-to-be-a-cool-mom kind of way (don’t kill me, mom! haha), and whenever she sees a bag she likes her face instantly lights up and she giggles!   It’s priceless, really.  Also, just spending time with her talking about random stuff and current events makes my day.  I treasure every single moment spent with her.  Happy Mother’s day!  I love you so much.” —Jaime Luis Abella, 16, La Salle Greenhills

“My mother is the best person I have ever met. I can’t choose my best memory of her because every day is the best. Seeing her brightens my day. Whenever I feel sad, she knows with just one look. She tries her best to comfort me. She always supports me in what I do, or in whatever I choose to do. I love my mother very much. She’s there to help me no matter what and asks for nothing in return. I know she may not be the best mother for others, but she is absolutely 100 percent the best for me.” —Joshua Milner, 13, La Salle Greenhills

“My mother’s support, motivation and sacrifice are what pushed me to achieve.  Even if my tuition, belongings, food, shelter and gadgets are quite pricey, the lessons I learn and the memories I retain are indeed priceless.” —Ric Alindayu, 15, La Salle Greenhills

“Sometimes it’s really hard to think of a memorable moment with my mom because, as a teenager, I usually argue with my parents about trivial matters like school and relationships. Most of the time my mom and I would fight over something, but I know that from all the work at the office, she is under stress. I’d like to reflect on the sacrifices my mom has made for me; all the pain she had to endure during childbirth, and all the shame I’ve caused her. I never really bother to stop and think that I’m blessed, living in a house, complete with clothing, food and family. I can only imagine what my life would be like if I didn’t have my mom. Mother’s Day is the time to take this opportunity to be with our mothers and show them that raising us, making us who we are now, was worth it.” —Adrian Goh, 15, La Salle Greenhills

“The great inner strength my mother shows my big sister and me through the adversity our family has experienced is among the greatest memories I have of my mother.” —Katherina Dipasupil, 17, FEU-NRMF

“My mom, Ludy Martires, is the most special person in my life. She is a really great mother, who cares deeply for me, and I consider her my best friend. She truly understands me and helps me through rough times. And I treasure those times when I would go to her crying because of many problems. She was always there for me, to help me, and comfort me. I got through every dark phase of my life because of her. It’s with my mom that I’m most comfortable being myself.  I remember those times when I would spend the whole afternoon goofing around and just sharing with her my nonsense stories; she would patiently listen to those stories even though it was clearly boring, just to make me happy.  I really appreciate her and all the things she has done for me. She is truly amazing, irreplaceable, and the best mother for me.” —Lexine Martires, 15, Immaculate Conception Academy
