Sam YG—what makes him tick and look good | Lifestyle.INQ

SAM YG

Sam YG is one-third of the notorious Boys Night Out Trio. His mischievous antics transcend radio waves and often leave audiences reeling with laughter whenever he hosts live events or during his regular TV show, “Eat Bulaga.”

Being naughty seems to pay dividends—this young jock has been linked to quite a few ladies. We spill out some of his success secrets, particularly in grooming.

The most interesting person I’ve interviewed in the show would be … Bamboo. Not only is he a great artist, he’s also very passionate about his work and about life.

The craziest topics I’ve discussed in the show were about…

Crazy things you did when you were in love.

You know you’re big time or “shumu-showbiz” when…

Things your parents never knew about you.

Malandi vs  being “friendly”

Because of the show, people have the impression that I’m… babaero. But hindi ako babaero, mga lalakero lang sila.

What I like most about my alter ego Shivaker is… I can get away with things I cannot normally do or say as a regular human being.

I look up to… a number of people and how they live their lives. A few of my “pegs in life” in the local scene are Fernando Zobel de Ayala, for being an inspiring business tycoon who manages to find time to train for triathlons; Michael V., the king of reinvention, who has his feet on the ground; Juan Ponce Enrile—wisdom personified; and Joey de Leon, a mind overflowing with intelligence and creativity.

THE ART of Shaving Shaving Cream

My fashion adviser is … GQ Magazine, Men’s Health and Esquire.

I’m obsessed with… eyewear and watches. I have this particular pair of white Burberry shades I wear often because it makes me look like a Bollywood star. On special days, I put on a turban for the ultimate Indian experience.

If I had to live with only one electrical item, I would choose… a big LED TV, but since I’m Indian, I’ll sell it so I can buy all the gadgets I want.

I spend the most on… cars and clothing. My dad has been a car fanatic and he probably passed on those genes to me. I think how a man presents himself says a lot about him, so I spend on what I wear, and that includes underwear.

Fresh white shirts

I can’t have enough of… fresh white button-down shirts and good jeans.

When it comes to grooming myself, people hate it when… I spend too much time grooming my goatee.

My essential bathroom items include… A fresh blade, Bath and Body Works bath gel, The Body Shop Maca Root face moisturizer, shower cap and loofa. But the products that have proven most reliable are Old Spice Deodorant, The Art of Shaving Shaving Cream and Gillette Mach 3.

I can’t go without … Bread. I have a weird habit of combining bread with a lot of things. Shawarma is, of course, top of mind!

I indulge myself in… Benjarong and People’s Palace. I love the way Thai food exploits my taste buds.

To keep trim I … Run! This is my favorite exercise. It keeps me fit while maintaining balance and peace of mind.

If I could be a super hero, I’d want to be… Aladdin’s genie so I could grant all wishes when the ladies rub my lamp.

Follow Sam on twitter @sam_yg or catch more of him “Boys Night Out,” Mondays-Thursdays, 6-10 p.m. on Magic 89.9, and “Eat Bulaga,” Monday-Saturday, 12 nn-2:30 p.m. on GMA7.
