Cavite City toasts ‘Tata Roque’; Leveriza, Malate, marks 61st Assumption feast

Since he was a child growing up in Cavite City, Jason Javier Anciro, now a medical technologist at Cavite City Medical Center, has been a devotee of San Roque, the patron saint of people who want to be healed of their infectious diseases.

In gratitude for blessings from the saint, Jason immediately said “yes” when he was asked to be the hermano mayor of this year’s fiesta.

Imus Bishop Emeritus Manuel Sobrevinas will officiate in the concelebrated Mass on Aug. 19, 9 a.m.

Fr. Cezar Reyes Jr. is parish priest.

In preparation for the feast on Aug. 19, “Dalaw Patron San Roque” is being held (July 31-Aug. 8) in different barangays, in cooperation with Bro. Bong Andrade, San Roque Cluster Organization and Zone 8 Barangay officials.

To open the novena Masses, a torch procession bearing San Roque willproceed from the Anciro residence on Aug. 8, 6 p.m., following the 5 p.m. Mass there.

Fr. Cezar is inviting devotees to the “Nobenaryo alay kay San Roque” on Aug. 9-17.

There will be feeding of 600 children on Aug. 17, 10 a.m., in the church, in cooperation with the US Retired Activities Office.

 

‘Gupitan Bayan’

Boys age seven to 12 will be given free haircut on Aug. 18, 8 a.m.-12 noon, at St. Joseph’s College, in cooperation with Mr. Apple Black & Company.

On the same day  there will be the “Sagip Buhay” blood donation event, 8 a.m.-12 noon, also at St. Joseph’s,  in cooperation with the Philippine National Red Cross-Cavite Chapter.

There will also be medical and dental missions.

Holy Mass will be held Aug. 18, 12 noon. There will be a blessing of dogs after the Mass.  Then the image of the Tata Roque will be brought out in a caracol afterward.

On Aug. 19, 5 a.m., the “Diana” will take place: A marching band will go around the town to begin the fiesta.

The grand procession will be at 7 p.m.

Father Al’s 11,000 children

The Sisters of Mary, who run Boystown and Girlstown in Silang, Cavite,  and Cebu, sent a letter telling us about the forthcoming birthday of 11,000 high school children under their care on Aug. 15, feast of Our Lady of the Assumption, the date set by their founder, Servant of God Msgr. Al Schwartz, as the children’s birthday.

For almost 50 years, the special day has been observed by the Sisters of Mary to give a heartwarming experience for all the children under their care in order to cultivate in them, especially the new ones, a sense of belonging.

Readers are encouraged to help the Sisters prepare gifts for the 11,000 children.

Fundraising for Aetas

International concert pianist Leonor Kilayko has been invited by Xavier Batch ’83 Foundation to play for their fundraising event, “An Evening of Art and Music,” on Aug. 11, at Medicard Lifestyle Center on 51 Paseo de Roxas and Buendia Avenues, Makati City.

The art exhibit will open at 6 p.m., featuring the works of Noel Cuizon, Rene Cuvos, Maria Pureza Escano, Jojo Lofranco, Mario de Rivera, Clairelynn  Uy and Vinson Yap.

Concert begins at 7 p.m.

Proceeds will go to the ministry for Aetas.

Tickets will be available at the gate.

 

Assumption fiesta

Novena Masses and the fiesta of Our Lady of the Assumption center on the theme “Pananampalatayang tapat:  Ugat ng tagumpay ng nananampalataya.”

Masses are at 6 p.m., Aug 6-14, at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish on Leveriza Street, Malate.

It will be the 61st fiesta of the parish.  Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales will officiate the concelebrated Mass Aug. 15, 9 a.m.

Novena Mass celebrants and their schedules are Fr. Genie Diwa, Aug. 6;  Fr. Benjie Ledesma, Aug. 7; Fr. Erick Santos, Aug. 8;  Fr. Albert Adison, Aug. 9;  Msgr. Bong Lo, Aug. 10;  Fr. Robbie Gaa, Aug. 11; Fr. Andy de Guzman, Aug. 12;  Msgr. Ding Coronel, Aug. 13; and Fr. Sanny de Claro.

Dalaw Soledad 2012

The pilgrim icon of Our Lady of Soledad de Porta Vaga is now at Holy Trinity Parish in Cainta, Rizal, until Aug. 12.

Other visits include Parish of Our Lady of Consolation at Miranila Subdivision, Tandang Sora, QC, Aug. 12-18; Parish of  Our Lady of Lourdes in Camarin, Caloocan, Aug. 18-26);  Holy Rosary Parish in Dampalit, Malabon, Aug. 26-Sept. 2.

Today is the feast of Our Lady of the Snows. You can find her icon at San Roque Church in Caloocan.

Our Lady of Buen Suceso

The Novena of Masses is ongoing for Our Lady of Buen Suceso at St. Andrew Cathedral, La Huerta, Parañaque, until Aug. 9, 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Fiesta Masses are at 5:30 a.m., 7 a.m, 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 noon, 3 p.m. and 6  p.m. Nana Ciso, pray for us.
