Fine art, décor, wines and watches to go under the hammer at auction

Celebrate the holidays in Salcedo Auctions-style with paintings, objets d’art, rare vintage wines and timepieces as the country’s first and only auction house announces its forthcoming Connoisseur Collection on Nov. 24, 2 p.m., at Three Salcedo Place, 121 Tordesillas St., Salcedo Village, Makati City.

A collection of Philippine art will be auctioned off: “Afternoon,” a treasured mixed-media on board by Anita Magsaysay-Ho, circa 1968; an introspective, richly textured Lao Lianben acrylic from 2009 titled “Table”; a charming 1951 oil painting of a beribboned little girl in a white dress, by National Artist Fernando Amorsolo; a noteworthy oil-on-canvas depicting a botanical garden by National Artist Victorio Edades; and a large work by contemporary art vanguard Charlie Co.

Other artists include Jigger Cruz, Anton del Castillo, Kiko Escora, Andres Barrioquinto and Alvin Villaruel.

There are also stunning selections of late 18th- and 19th-century Philippine maps; ornithological and botanical hand-colored lithographs; out-of-print books and ephemera; important memorabilia including a paper fan with a painting by  President Corazon C. Aquino; sterling silver and ivory objets d’art; Philippine designer furniture; a fine and rare circa-1937 cloissone “Shippo” vase by J. Ando, Nagoya—a purveyor to the Imperial Japanese Household—in excellent condition and in its original presentation box; an oil painting by Vietnamese artist Phan Han; as well as pedigreed crystal by Lalique, Baccarat, Daum pate de verre; and whimsical porcelain figurines by Lladro and Royal Coperhagen.

Distinguished wines from the Bacchus Private Reserve, including a 1982 Chateau Margaux, a legendary vintage for Bordeaux; a six-year vertical of Angelo Gaja “Sori Tildin” (1995,1996,1997,1998, 1999, 2000); and a 1990 Chateau Latour, Pauillac (Magnum)—“A perfect wine,” as rated by several leading wine critics.

This auction will also see watch collectors spoiled for choice with a selection of timepieces by IWC, Jaeger LeCoultre, Rolex, Cartier and Omega.
