‘Katy!’ returns Jan. 17

The landmark original Filipino musical ‘Katy!’ will be revived by Spotlight Artists Centre in January 2013, with Isay Alvarez-Seña playing the lead role of bodabil queen Katy de la Cruz, a part originated by Mitch Valdez. Once again directed by Nestor Torre, “Katy!” has music by Ryan Cayabyab and  libretto is by Jose Javier Reyes.

The musical will run Jan. 17-27, 2013, at Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater), Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Cast includes Tirso Cruz III, Dulce, Lou Veloso, Gian Magdangal, and Epy Quizon.

‘Potted Potter’ restaged Jan. 30

The smash hit “Potted Potter” returns to Manila Jan. 30-Feb. 3 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, for nine shows only.

“Potted Potter,” which had sold-out houses during the first season in Manila last August, condenses all seven Harry Potter books (and a real-life game of Quidditch) into 70 hilarious minutes.

‘They’re Playing Our Song’

9 Works Theatrical will stage the Marvin Hamlisch-Carole Bayer Sager musical, “They’re Playing Our Song,” starring  Nikki Gil and Lorenz Martinez, under Robbie Guevara’s direction, at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City Feb. 8-March 3, 2013.

New play at UP Guerrero Theater

To end its 37th Season, Dulaang UP presents “Collection,” a new play by Floy Quintos. The dark comedy centers on the discovery of a 16th-century ivory image of the Virgin, and a society obsessed with conspicuous consumption and surface glamour.

Jeremy Domingo, Alya Honasan, Adele Victorino, Charlene Elechi, Arkel Mendoza, Jean Judith Javier, Janine Santos, and Leo Rialp perform, under the direction of Dexter Santos.
