It?s a cool, urban-street look that balances the tough and the feminine

FROM THE FASHION capitals of New York to Paris, the Fall season is all about the inspired jacket.

Black leather motorcycle jackets, puffer numbers, bright tailored suit jackets?it?s a look that can be incorporated locally as the first cool breezes waft in for the holiday season.

The look is cool, urban-street style that balances the tough and the feminine.

Homage

Over at the House of Chanel, the idea was all about ?grown-up yet youthful??translated into feminine white collars and cuffs trimmed with chiffon, frills and ruffs and fitted black silhouettes, courtesy of Karl Lagerfeld.

He called the collection ?Belle Brummell,? a kind of wordplay that pays homage to the British Regency dandy who dictated men?s fashion by tying his cravats in elaborate configurations.

Lagerfeld also interpreted the classic Chanel white georgette in lace, knit and satin, and worked the season?s motorcycle leathers in drop-waist dresses and puffer jackets.

At the Dries Van Noten runway, the belted camel coats in eccentric color combinations brought life to the collection with shrimp pink, beige, ocher, orange and mauve.

Designer Stella McCartney?s Fall collection, meanwhile, incorporated jackets in black and white, or red and black micro-checks, which were also worn as dresses paired with vegan legging boots. Also in the collection were cocoon coats paired with skinny belts.

(Speaking of boots, here?s something to watch out for?this season?s extreme footwear, a hybrid of boots and leggings. Not sure how this would fly, but it?ll be interesting to watch!)

Party mood

Lastly, Emmanuel Ungaro welcomed the Fall in a party mood. Designer Cortazar pumped up the runway with party frocks?fitted strapless dresses in fuschia, orange and royal blue, sky-high heels, paired with motorcycle jackets and silk scarves tied around the neck.

On the tailored side, a blue leather jacket was paired with high-waisted satin pants with fanlike pockets on the hips.

Take a cue from these designers? inspired combinations?silk scarves paired with leather jackets, coats with skinny belts, jackets over dresses and color, color, color!
