Olive and khaki are the season?s frontline colors
IT?S THE INVASION of tanks and bullets this season.

Make that cutaway tank tops, bullet belts, khakis, cargo pants and the ever-powerful military jacket. The military look is back in command, and designers are covering new battleground with some sexy, rough and rugged camouflage looks.

In lieu of flowers, look toward the greens instead. Olive and khaki are the season?s frontline colors. The look is skinny and slouchy at the same time. Layer pieces like cropped jackets, cargo shorts and army boots for a strong, utilitarian ensemble.

Rag & Bone, for one, embodies simplicity and chic with uncomplicated pieces like a cargo-green army parka layered on top of an easy, oversize tuxedo shirt and a little dagger-print skirt. Or a gray silk cropped jacket thrown over a couple of drapey cutaway tanks and leather pants.

New twist

Balmain brought a new twist to the look with what fashion journalists described as ?disco cave woman goes to the front? ?as if glamazon party girls were arrested and dragged through an obstacle course. An army of long-legged models marched out with huge-shouldered military tailcoats over tattered T-shirts and bullet belts sexily slung around stained, torn jeans.

Raggedy suede and leather loincloths reinterpreted the long skirt. I?d call it glamorous grunge. Some belts even came with bullets arranged in a flower pattern.

Over at MaxMara, a more elegant military theme (if that?s possible) came out. The softer look draped satin coats over matching shirts and pants, suede trousers and pencil skirts?bringing to mind a more sophisticated ?80s working woman.

Another surprise attack?the fanny pack! Yes, indeed, thanks to Marc Jacobs. Leave it to the genius to introduce the most uncool accessory and give it fashion cred. For his show, girls sizzled in Kabuki-style makeup, dark olive military trench coats over long skirts and leather bags slung on shoulders.

The military look offers extremely wearable pieces for our country?s tropical jungle temperature. On this fashion spread, find some key strategies to get you ready to wage war against crimes of fashion.
