?There are no boundaries for the smoky eyes?or red lipstick?
THE SMOKY eye is back? not that it ever left us, but this Fall?s incarnate of the intense look that?s graced glossy magazine covers, fashion runway, and red-carpet events ?is a matte-smoky eye that?s pulled out further, going above and beyond the usual stopping point,? says Robin Flanagan, international trainer and makeup artist for Asia-Pacific of Smashbox. ?There are no boundaries for the smoky eye.?
Or bright lipstick, for that matter.
Such is the inspiration behind Masquerade, Smashbox?s color collection for Fall 2010.
According to Flanagan, the line derives its name from the mysterious air of masquerade balls, where women conceal their faces (and identities) behind heavily embellished masks.
?Because nobody knows who?s behind the mask, we?re free to act just a little differently than how we normally would,? says Flanagan.
?The same rule applies to makeup. If no one were to judge you, would you wear that bright red lipstick? Would you wear that smoky eye? We?re saying it?s okay to wear that heavy eye makeup and it?s okay to wear that heavy lip color, if you dare. We encourage our customers to play.?
Used together or one at a time, these eight new makeup products promise to add impact to your look.
The Eyeshadow palette in Masquerade (P1,795) offers six shades with a shimmer finish (black plum, metallic khaki, gold, bronze, metallic cabernet, navy) and three shades in matte (soft peach, taupe, bone). Presented in ?complementary trios,? the compact allows you to experiment by combining shades diagonally, horizontally, or any which way you please.
?You can create your own look,? says Flanagan. ?Explore makeup with uniformity.?
Lit-from-within
Expect to appear ?lit-from-within? with the Baked Fusion Soft Light Palette in Illusion (P1,650), glistening shades of soft gold, rose gold and champagne which give an illuminating effect when applied to the cheeks, nose, forehead and décolleté.
It?s said to be best combined with Creamy Cheek Color and Crush in Intrigue (P1,450), a luxurious formula infused with vitamin E, which, when swiped on the apples of the cheeks, achieves a sexy, flushed look.
A pointy brush aids in the easy application of the Liquid Liner And Lash Overlay in bronze and teal (P995). Emphasize your eyes by lining them first then sweeping the specially designed rod over a coat of mascara to ?tip? the ends of the lashes.
The Lip-enhancing Gloss in Reveal and Disguise (P950) does more than give you a provocative pout. Enriched with vitamin E and sunflower-seed oil, this gloss (available in golden nude and golden pink) moisturizes and nourishes, too.
Meanwhile, gingko biloba, goji berry, avocado oil, vitamin C and pomegranate-seed oil are among the ingredients of the O-gloss noir (P1,050), an intriguing lip gloss that?s black at first, but transforms into a deep berry hue upon application.
