The Hindu dust color is now the color palette on the catwalk
AFTER WE?VE seen the surge of blush, the Hindu dust color khaki, is now the color palette on the catwalk, from its variation of cream, buff, ecru, tan, camel and beige.

The lighter shade of brown has been associated with Burberry?s utilitarian trench coats and classic Dockers trousers, which we?ve now seen reworked to suit our times.

Taking the lead is Chloé?s Fall/Winter RTW 2010 collection. ?Beige, beige and more beige,? reported Sarah Mower of Style.com on Chloé?s take on the earth tone.

?With such thorough commitment that until halfway through [the show], it almost seemed Hannah MacGibbon was reluctant to offer anything else,? she said, pertaining to the knits, silk blouses, high-waist flared trousers and coats that played with the fave hue of the season.

The romance with this neutral shade has found its way into Gucci?s trousers, handbags and suit jackets. Gap?s signature cuffed khaki pants are now loose, pleated and flared and belted.

Lanvin created draped dresses with the same hues for evening affairs, while Mulberry had a happier take on the neutrals, paired khaki cigarette pants and trench coats with warm colors of orange and yellow.

How to accessorize

For this classic neutral color, metallic gold detailing are the perfect additions. Or opt for Prada?s rendition; dresses were teamed with knitted khaki socks with patent square heels.

Ditch the biker, rock look for a cooler attitude with leather in nude or tan, almost like second skin when reworked into dresses and tops.

When it comes to the footwear, animal prints give you that chic edge. Or go for more earth tone colors and work the ?matchy-matchy? look, which is also in vogue this season.

The new khaki is at the cooler end of the fashion spectrum that features a lot of clean lines and fresh modern cuts. No one can go wrong with this nonsense color; one can stand out and be chic minus the pretentiousness.
