HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Thinking of how to dress up your table? Or looking for a fun way to give your children delicious sugar treats?
These are what you asked for Mia. As promised, the most affordable treats I could find.
Gel Colet makes chocolate-covered Halloween Marshmallows that are so cute and reasonable. Of course, she is more known for her themed cupcakes and a la Martha Stewart cookies.
Pumpkin Marshmallows, 25 pieces for P200; Halloween Cookies, P15-18 a piece. The cookies I found range from P20 up and don’t look classy. Call Gel at 0917-5367827.
My other sources for Halloween Themed Treats:
Halloween Cupcakes of Goldilock’s which are visually appealing and taste good. Best value for money at P35 each. Ask them to swirl the icing para mukhang mahal. I’ve encountered cupcakes half the size at P35 or of the same size but priced P50 up. Call Terry Paje at 532-4050 loc. 236 or 0917-8738322.
Estrelle’s Halloween-themed Caramel Cakes. So nice and colorful. This cake has been a staple on my buffet table every Halloween. Price starts at P550. Call 371-7938/372-2965.
Finally a delicious snack that costs less than 10 centavos a morsel.
Last Saturday, I was with my son Diego at my nephew Emilio’s Casa Verde Halloween Party. It was the usual trick or treat. My son’s Pumpkin and Ninja loot bags were filled with goodies.
We got home and shortly after, fell asleep. I woke up in the middle of the night hungry, craving for something sweet.
That was when I found my fingers sorting out the content of the bags. After opening three packs of sitsirya, I found myself eating through a bag of the best caramel puffs.
Have you tried Moby Caramel Puffs? On the bag: “No hull, no kernels and melts in your mouth!” I completely agree!
I looked at the back of the pack and called the number of Nutri Snack, makers of Moby, to find out more about the product. To my surprise, the product is 10 years old.
I had six medium-sized packs of Moby Caramel Puffs bought for only P6 each. What a treat!
Have you tasted their “Loaded” corn chip snack filled with white chocolate? I substitute with Loaker Wafers, especially when my pagka-Ilocana strikes me.
Nutritive Snack, a 100-percent Philippine-owned company produces such tasty munchies.
As promised, Kinilaw na Hipon from Garden Oases Resort and Convention Center, Davao. Thanks, Jefferson for the recipe.

For live shrimp, call Gold Coast Marine at 727-2484 and look for Jeffrey. Have shrimps packed in a bag with water and oxygen so they get home alive and kicking.
By the way, my apologies. It occurred to me only the day after that there are five Jeff Tans on my phonebook. I ended up giving the number of another Jeff Tan, who was so kind to forward the number of the Jeff Tan who sells the coconut briquettes. These are the correct numbers: 0908-8791885/0918-9221709.
The schedule for my Holiday Gourmet Cocinera (cooking classes for household cooks and beginners), Thanksgiving and Christmas Cooking Classes are out.
Avail of my Thanksgiving promo for November and get huge discounts on class fees.
I will be teaching in Davao soon and will conduct my Mindanao Culinary Heritage Tour as well.
