It will have the presidential seal and an image of Malacañang
AFTER HE IS SWORN IN as the 15th Philippine President and delivers his inaugural address at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila, Benigno Simeon ?Noynoy? Aquino III will be greeted by the sight of this elegant one-layer fondant at the Malacañang Palace for the traditional vin d?honneur with foreign dignitaries.
The banana walnut cake will measure 80 inches in length, 40 in width, and 30 in height. It will have the replica of the presidential palace.
?It?s due him,? says the creator, Penk Ching of Pastry Bin. ?That is where a lot of decisions and policies will be carried out and so he will be seen in action.?
Ching researched the look of the cake from the Internet and from Nick Joaquin?s book, ?Malacañang,? a copy of which was provided her by Pinky Aquino-Abellada, the incoming President?s sister.
Ching will use an edible frosting sheet to fashion the Malacañang seal. The intricate embossed windows will be made of gum paste, including the proverbial yellow ribbon.
Parts of the cake, such as the base and board, will be made in Ching?s house and the rest will be put together or set up at Malacañang on the day itself. A tall wooden stand will bear the cake?s weight.
In designing the cake, Ching is coordinating closely with Abellada, family friend Dr. Alex Ayco and fashion designer Paul Cabral.
