FR. APOLINARIO TY, SSS, SPIRITUAL director of the Eucharistic Adorers? League, says that the choice of the theme for the 22nd Eucharistic Congress on Nov. 28 coincides with the wish of the Holy Father that the Church celebrate this year the Year of the Priest.
He says, ?Hopefully, this year?s Eucharistic Congress? topic will help the faithful enter the spirit of the Year of the Priest through better appreciation of our common priesthood or the priesthood of all believers. And the most important aspect of the priesthood is its connection to the Eucharist.?
Ty continues, ?As John Paul II puts it, The Eucharist is the principal and central raison d?etre of the sacrament of the priesthood, which effectively came into being at the moment of the institution of the Eucharist, and together with it. Not without reason the words ?Do this in memory of Me? are said immediately after the words of Eucharistic consecration, and we repeat them every time we celebrate the Holy Sacrifice.?
The Eucharistic Congress is prepared by both the Pink Sisters and Eucharistic Adorers? League who organized registration at 7 a.m., set up TV monitors in the St. Joseph Convent compound on Hemady St., New Manila. Food is prepared for at least 1,500 people during lunch and snack time.
