Summer is almost ending—and so is the harvest season for mangoes. In Guimaras, an island province known for its bountiful, golden sweet mangoes, the peak months for harvests are April and May, says Elena Quezon, environmental planner and provincial economic development officer.
It’s been two years since the Batungbacal farm in Zambales has had enough fruits to sell. That is why when Maricris Batungbacal Encarnacion’s invitation to pick mangoes came, I accepted it as excitedly as the first time many years ago.
It looked like a scene straight out of “Revenge.” An invitation done in black paper with silver lettering was given to guests prior to the event, along with a note from “J.”
Mangoes are in season, and although most Filipinos do not need an excuse to eat them, they will be glad to know that enjoying the fruit has health benefits, too.
