High school basketball may not be as attention-getting as collegiate basketball, but this year at the National College Athletics Association (NCAA), it was a different case altogether because of the emerging rivalry between San Beda and La Salle Green Hills.
Always behind the scenes, but always behind the team—this would probably be the best description for the steadfast young men and women who have been drumming and cheering to support the Gilas Pilipinas national basketball team in the Fiba Asia campaign, which started last Aug. 1 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Most people see basketball as a competitive sport, something to feel aggressive about. Some people think of a basketball game as something honorable, a chance for glory or redemption. Others see it as a pastime, to be enjoyed with soda and popcorn. As a Bedan, I saw basketball as all of these things. At San Beda Alabang, where I studied from preschool to high school, basketball was a major event. It was one of the PE subjects we could choose, one of the highlights of the intramurals, and was the sport we won championships for. To put it simply, it was in our blood.
