Apps for snaps

Everyone is on Instagram now, posting self-portraits (aka “selfies”), dogs and cats, clouds, shoes, and the most popular, food. You can imagine how one’s iPhone feed must be peppered with posts of the same dishes when a new restaurant opens. Make sure your photos stand out from the rest by installing these apps on your iPhone.

These apps will help you turn your photos into creative and individualized, quirky snaps.

Just make sure you have a steady Internet connection to download the apps and upload your snazzy new snapshot. We were given the chance to try Globe’s Powersurf 499, which provided us with 1,000MB or 1GB worth of data—more than enough for nonstop sharing on Instagram and on-the-fly in-app purchases.

Line Camera

Line Camera uses live filters and frames so you can choose your filter and frame before taking a photo, making it easier for you to compose your shot. There are a lot of frames to choose from and they regularly release seasonal frames for holidays which you can download for free. There are also adorable downloadable stickers which you can use to decorate your photo. You can then save your photo in your iPhone 5 album and upload on your favorite social network.

EyeEm

EyeEm could be the next Instagram. The app has arguably better filters than the more popular photo social network and allows users to veer away from the traditional square ratio. You can add text to the photo directly and the interface is so much cooler. It also employs live filters and frames. If you still want to stick to Instagram (since your friends are all there), you can simply use EyeEm’s filters—the photos are automatically saved to your camera roll so you can repost your EyeEm photos to Instagram.

Snapeee

This “freemium” photo social network service is the rage among girls in Japan, Korea, Thailand and anywhere where “kawaii” culture is popular. The app lets you snap photos in three different ratios (1:1, 3:2, 4:3), but the best part are the points and stickers.

Each “Like,” photo upload, share and login earns you points which you can use to download sticker packs (other stickers are available via in-app purchase). Each sticker pack comes with frames, stamps and brush stamps and all of them are too cute for words.

Instaweather

Turn your photo feed into a weather feed of sorts by making sure to edit your photos with Instaweather’s current forecast overlays (location, date and temp are some of the mix-and-match options) on your photos. You can edit your photos in Instaweather and share on Instagram. It’s the ideal app to have especially when you’re traveling with friends or you just want to remember the moment.

Jittergram

Always have an instant .gif maker (those animated photos we can’t get enough off on the Net) on your iPhone with Jittergram. The app lets you take 3D stereograms or long stop-motion animations, too! You can then share your work via Twitter, Facebook or e-mail. An in-app purchase lets you add animated drawings to your snaps. Neat, huh?

Wave & Pose

Fashion bloggers or those who love posting their daily outfits should install this app right away. You can prop your iPhone 5 against a steady surface away from you and activate the front-facing camera by waving at it, it’s that simple! You can practice posing yourself since the iPhone’s 5’s front screen is engaged. When you’re ready, you can adjust your pose before waving at the sensor to take the shot.
