2013 marks the 12th year of FCBD.

Trese. Budjette Tan, creative director by day, copywriter by night, comic book writer after midnight; writer and co-creator of graphic novel “Trese.” Kajo Baldisimo is an avid collector of “Transformers” toys. He’s also the artist and co-creator of the award-winning graphic novel “Trese.”
Free Comic Book Day happens every year on the first Saturday of May.
This is the second year for FCBD to fall on May 4. May 4 is also considered “Star Wars” day by many fans.
If you love “Grimm,” a free comic book version of the TV series will be released on FCBD.
“The Walking Dead” free comic includes a new and exclusive Tyreese-centric story. Incidentally, this same story will not be reprinted in trade paperbacks or other editions.
Over 4.6 million comics have been ordered by retail ers across the world for this year’s FCBD.
Since 2002, more than 27 million comics have been given away on FCBD.
Tatsulok. David Hontiveros has been writing comics since he collaborated with Carl Vergara and a number of other college friends on “Flashpoint” way back in the Cambrian era when the first hard-shelled mollusks appeared. Xerx Javier is a comic book artist who has a taste for dark shadows and intricate details.
FCBD isn’t for adults only. A lot of free comics are geared towards young children, too.
Stan Lee will debut a new superhero this year called “Chakra the Invincible.”
Some comic book companies release material on FCBD that they won’t release again so some issues become rare collector’s items!
Mythspace. Paolo Chikiamco (@anitero) is the man behind the blog/imprint “Rocket Kapre” (https://rocketkapre.com), and the writer of the “Mythspace” series of sci-fi comics, which reimagine folklore monsters as alien races. Borg Sinaban (https://borgsinaban.blogspot.com/ ) is a freelance illustrator and concept artist whose work includes “Pilandokomiks: Ang Tatlong Sumpa” and “Mythspace: Unfurling of Wings.”
The idea for FCBD is credited to retailer Joe Field, owner of Flying Colors Comics in California.
The inspiration for FCBD was Baskin-Robbins’ annual “Free Scoop Night. ”
One of the first shops to participate in FCBD in the Philippines was CCHQ in Katipunan. They gave out free comics from 2002-2004.
Viz Media’s manga sampler will include an exclusive Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration poster. Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration is the latest samurai action adventure from creator Nobuhiro Watsuki.
Kikomachine. Manix Abrera is the creator of the ultra-megasuper-duper-popular comic strip “Kikomachine” (RAK EN ROL!) and critically-acclaimed graphic novel “12” (even Neil Gaiman loved it!).
Kuting Magiting. Robert Magnuson, award-winning writer/artist of several children’s books is the creator of “Hero Kitten, Kuting Magiting.”
Bathala. Aside from drawing Bathala’s adventures at the end of the world, Ace Enriquez also draws the travails of “Mang Jose, Ang Superhero-ngNaniningil.” Ace Enriquez has an arc reactor tattoo on his chest.
Dark Colony. Bow Guerrero is the artist and cocreator of the comic book “The Dark Colony Book 1: Mikey Recio & The Secret of The Demon Dungeon.”
Agyu. Vinnie Pacleb should be working on his film thesis; instead he draws pointy-eared men in spandex.
KOI CARREON (https://eclectic-lights.blogspot.com/) is a freelance illustrator, graphic artist and photography enthusiast who is the artist of “Mythspace: Lift Off” and creator of “Marco’s Delivery Service.”
MICO Dimagiba (https://dmgb.cghub.com/ ) is the illustrator for the upcoming “Mythspace: Uncommon Ground,” about a Kapre detective on an alien world.
CRISTINA Rose Chua (https://ceearrchua.tumblr.com/ ) is the artist for “Mythspace: Humanity.” She was shortlisted by CB Cebulski in the “Be The Next Comic Marvel” talent search.
