May 4 is Free Comic Book Day (FCBD, held every year on the first Saturday of May), when comic shops all over the world hand out free comic books.
Since the Philippines is full of comic book junkies, the local comic book scene celebrates FCBD as its own unique holiday, with local stores getting in on the action. National Book Store and Comicx Hub have partnered to set a world record for most “sketch cards” done by comic artists in one day. Fully Booked and Comic Odyssey are releasing their own freebies on this occasion.
That’s what led Budjette Tan (Alamat Comic founding member and cocreator of “Trese”) to send Inquirer Super an e-mail: “I’m wondering what else can be done to help promote all these events. And it would be great if we can give focus to the local comic book artists. So, I was wondering if Inquirer would be willing to have ‘free comic books’ on that day. Do you think that would be possible?”
The answer was a big “Yes!” We have decided to join forces. With Budjette gathering contributions from some of the best comic book creators, we present to you the first Super FCBD special!
