Three delectable tiers | Lifestyle.INQ

USING items found at home, you can make your own three-tiered server that can be used for both sweet and savory delicacies. All you need are three plates in diminishing sizes, two wineglasses, a glue gun and marker.

Present your summer goodies on your very own three-tiered plate server. These are very popular in Europe, especially in England, during high tea. Dainty sandwiches and scones are individually arranged around the plates, as opposed to piling them all on just one plate. This is a great way to save on table space and is also a visual treat.

Pretty three-tiered plates are not easy to find and may be costly. Here’s how you can make one using what you already have.

Here’s what you’ll need for a three-tiered version:

Three plates—at least 10 inches in diameter for the bottom plate; gradually smaller for the two upper levels.

  • Two glasses or crystal wine glasses
  • Glue gun
  • Marker

PRACTICE care when handling the finished product. Always grip the lowest plate, never the one on top.

Make sure your plates and glasses are clean and dry.

Arrange the plates temporarily to see if they fit proportionately. Remember that the top plate should be the smallest.

Measure and find the center of the plate, and using the wine glass, mark its place for gluing later.

Start with the biggest plate at the bottom. Place the wine glass in the middle, right side up. Follow this with the smaller plate, then another wine glass at the center.

Lastly, place the smallest plate to finish your three-tiered plate server.

Once you’ve found the arrangement that pleases you, heat up your glue gun and glue the wine glass on the surfaces of the plates respectively.

Tips :

Scavenge around garage sales for odd pieces or your mom’s stack of broken sets of interesting plates to make your plate server even prettier.

Lift your three-tiered beauty from the bottom, and not from the top plate. Glue from your glue gun may not take the weight of your plates.
