In a past article (“Freeze that fat away,” March 22), I talked about the latest treatment called Zeltiq Coolsculpting that isolates stubborn fat from certain areas of our bodies that do not respond to exercise and diet. The technique actually freezes the fat cells and kills them off from 60-180 days so that they don’t come back and that chubby area becomes more sleek and compact.
Ideal candidates are men or women in their right weight or even lighter, but have pockets of fat that refuse to budge like love handles, hips or inner thighs, which oftentimes requires only one treatment. Back when I tried it at e-derm clinic though, they only had limited attachments and the area I originally wanted (the bra line) would need two cycles which would take too much time. So, I picked the area by my ribs instead as it was the perfect size for the attachment.
‘Kili-kili’ fat
What’s new? The Beverly Hills Medical Group invited me to listen to a Coolsculpting trainor from Zeltiq’s main office as she introduced new attachments to accommodate more problem areas such as the arms and the annoying chubby area that Filipino women call “kili-kili (armpit) fat”—also in demand for treating thighs that rub together, aka chub rub.
Bigger attachments now allow single cycle/payment for bigger areas like back fat, which used to require two or more cycles to cover the whole thing.
The fact is, there is such a thing as under-treatment. For instance, a lady had what looked like a burrito-sized dent on her lower abs because she only had that spot treated when the surrounding area had excess fat as well. Or it could be a smaller but still noticeable bulge when a person stopped at one treatment when she needed at least one more.
In the slides shown to us, those treated with Coolsculpting also have tighter and smoother skin without the benefit of any other treatment. The trainor could not explain why this was so, but it is a very pleasant development.
But yes, it hurts. Imagine someone pinching you as hard as it gets and refusing to let go. You will feel this for the first 30 seconds until the area being treated slowly feels numb.

Energy booster
Someone sent me Pr1mera products for testing and advised me to drink Green Tea with L-Carnitine Iced Tea before I exercise to give me the energy boost during aerobic activity. Both ingredients burn fat and boost energy, but the green tea also helps suppress appetite within the day.
In the evening I drink either Guyabarley or its guyabano juice to prevent constipation; it helps me go to the bathroom the next day without the cramping pain of laxatives. It tastes good and contains the generic form of Splenda, so I do not get to violate my low- to no-sugar diet.
Log on to its website, www.pr1mera.com.ph, so they can dispatch a member to you if you want to try the juice. A box of 20 sachets costs P788 for Guyabarley and P600 for Green Tea L-Carnitine Iced Tea.
Tip: Sip any generic green tea (without sugar) iced or hot within the day to further suppress appetite, but not after 5 p.m. or you will have trouble sleeping.
