Heavenly voices are set to descend on the Far Eastern University (FEU) Auditorium when it hosts the fifth edition of Musica FEUropa, the only European Union-sponsored choral competition in the Philippines.
A two-day celebration of choral music, Musica FEUropa 5 will hold its semi-finals for the Open category on May 24 at 1 p.m. The final rounds for its High School and Open categories, on the other hand, will be held on May 25 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
Admission to Musica FEUropa 5 is free and open to the public on both days.
“We are excited to once again host this prestigious event as part of the European Union Month celebrations here in the Philippines,” said Martin Lopez, director of FEU’s President’s Committee on Culture. “May is also Filipinas Heritage Month-Musica FEUropa is part of an ongoing partnership between the university and the EU in bringing the arts closer not only to the FEU community but also to the general public.”
Among this year’s competitors include Araullo High School Chorale, Benigno Aquino High School Chorale, Himig ni Juan Chorale, Himig Roseña, Imus Institute Pitch Choir, PHS Chorale and St. Paul College Makati for the High School category. TIP Choral Society and Holy Angel University from Pampanga will defend their titles in the Open Category finals after placing within the Top 3 in last year’s competition.
Competitors for the High School Choir category will compete for a top prize of P25,000. The Open Choir category, on the other hand, which consists of college, university, church, corporate, government and other adult choirs, carries a grand prize of 1,000 euros.
Musica FEUropa is part of Viva Europa 2013 which is being held by the European Union Delegation to the Philippines in collaboration with EU member states embassies and cultural institutes where FEU is a major partner. Viva Europa 2013 celebrates the founding of the European Union on the 9th of May. It also showcases the rich European culture and heritage in the Philippines.
