Personal-care wisdom: Use conditioner at the ends, not roots, of hair

There’s a reason they call your hair your crowning glory,” said Anna Mangilin, Unilever marketing director for Hair Care. “Your locks make a statement to yourself and to the world.”

Any girl who spends a lot of time styling her hair for work-related engagements and nights out couldn’t agree more.

At Unilever’s Personal Care Summit held at El Nido’s Pangulasian Island Resort, guests were not only treated to hair-pampering sessions, but were also introduced to the brand’s hair-care products, and to the clinical research and world-class technology behind the creation of these products.

One such brand that continues to provide expert hair-care solutions for the modern Filipina is Cream Silk.

Personal Care Research and Development director Andrea Sorze and Hair Care technical manager Eleanor Dorado explained how Cream Silk’s latest Hair Reborn Technology could restore damaged hair to what’s even better than virgin, untreated hair.

Following the belief that beauty gives one a winning edge in life and that limitless beauty means limitless possibilities, Cream Silk seeks to provide Filipinas a wide range of products for every hair-care need.

Cream Silk beauty icon Heart Evangelista, who graced the event, showed off her lustrous locks in a recent photo shoot for Look magazine. On the cover spread she showed her sexy figure in chic but very practical outfits, and talked about her newfound independence. It’s a very confident Heart Evangelista whom Look captured in its cover story.

About her own hair care, Evangelista said, “I condition my hair every day but make sure to apply conditioner (Cream Silk Stunning Shine) to the lengths and ends only.”

She lessens the use of styling products and takes her daily hair multivitamin called Pantogar.

“There are endless possibilities when you have gorgeous hair,” Evangelista said.

While having healthy tresses gets her photo-ready even during her travels, “it always takes me home to where I’m most comfortable, in the company of good friends, family and the people who love me the most.”

As Gina Lorenzana, Unilever vice president for Personal Care, said, “In the end, it’s not just about our products, but also how our products can positively impact the lives of our fellow Filipinos.”

Hair expert Lourd Ramos gives tips

1. EVERY WOMAN should have at least three types of shampoo: nourishing shampoo for everyday use; detox or anti-dandruff shampoo that should be used once a month to cleanse scalp and hair as it has good detoxifying compounds to remove impurities; and shampoo specifically for sensitized or chemically damaged hair to strengthen each strand.

2. After applying a pea-size amount of shampoo lathered with water and rinsing, apply Cream Silk Dry Rescue Treatment conditioner starting from the ends and never from the roots.

3. Rinse off conditioner with cold water to retain moisture and seal hair cuticles.

4. Cream Silk conditioner to use: Standout Straight for virgin hair, Anti Hair Fall for falling hair (start from scalp); and Dry Rescue for colored or chemically treated hair.

5. Moisturize hair with treatment once a week. Apply a spoonful, then wrap hair in shower cap and leave on for 15 minutes then rinse well.

6. For those who don’t like using conditioner, use Cream Silk Perfection detangling spray. Spritz at least six pumps at the bottom part of your hair and don’t rinse; or apply a pea-size amount of Instant Frizz Control Leave On from the ends.
