Joseph Esmilla leads Filfest chamber music concert in Alabang

The Filfest Cultural Foundation will hold the concert, “An Evening with the Chamber Players of Manila,” featuring violinist Joseph Esmilla, on June 15, 8 p.m., at the Insular Life Auditorium, Insular Life Building, Filinvest Corporate City, Alabang, Muntinlupa.

 

Prior to his studies at the Juilliard where he earned the bachelor and masters of music degrees, Esmilla was trained by his father, Serigio Z. Esmilla Jr., and by Oscar C. Yatco and Basilio Manalo. At Juilliard, he was trained under the tutelage of Dorothy DeLay, Masao Kawasaki and Jens Ellerman.

 

Subsequently, he pursued professional studies in violin and chamber music with Arnold Steinhardt and John Dalley of the Guarneri Quartet.

 

He participated in summer festivals and programs such as Aspen, Interlochen, Dartington and the International Summer Academy at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, where he was chosen to play the Tchaikovsky violin concerto for the culminating concert with the New Orchestra of Boston.

 

He is a seasoned soloist in the Philippines. He has performed in various capacities as a musician in the Philippines, USA, Germany, Austria, China, Malaysia and South Korea.

 

Esmilla regularly  collaborates with pianist Rudolf Golez and cellist Victor Coo in giving chamber music performances.

 

The Chamber Players of Manila evolved from a gathering of young and talented musicians in the summer of 2012. Its maiden performance was held at the Pastor Arts Center in Batangas City.

 

The group will be performing Vivaldi Concerto for Four Violins in B Minor, Suk Serenade for Strings, Piazolla Ave Maria, Bloch Concerto Grosso for String Orchestra and Piano Obligato.
