New edition of art mag now out

Art+ Magazine is the new name of Contemporary Art Philippines. Its May-June issue is packed with all the latest news from the Philippine visual art world, including artist-profiles on painters Rene Cuvos (whose work graces the cover), Romulo Galicano and Bernard Vista.

RENE Cuvos artwork graces Art+ cover.

Art writer and Art+ contributing editor Cid Reyes writes about the practice of Arturo Luz, while noted art historian Patrick Flores of UP’s Vargas Museum shares his experience encountering exhibitions of works by Asian artists during his recent trip to New York City.

The issue also covers shows at the Metropolitan Museum in Manila and Ateneo Art Gallery. It has a special feature on Finale Art File, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

An important feature is the Q&A with Presidential Commission on Good Government Commissioner Maita Chan-Gonzaga on the stolen paintings from the collection of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Now on its fifth year of publication, Contemporary Art Philippines became Art+ to better  mix lifestyle and the visual art. Its readers are not only art aficionados, but also well-traveled, style-conscious people, and with an eye out for the latest that technology has to offer.

Managing editor Jewel Chuansu went to Osaka and Kyoto, and she tells us about her travels in the magazine’s special lifestyle section.

Art+ is available at all National Book Store, Fully Booked and Powerbook outlets nationwide. Call 4743852.
